I watched her body shake and convulse as the counter spell worked to change her memories. My whole body was tense, and I had to stop myself from going in there and holding her, comforting her as she struggled through the pain of the spell.

She was right, she had been strong enough to break through the chains that were holding her up, and now she was just curled up into a tight ball.  Her skin crawled and glowed as the runes on her body moved, ever-changing and sometimes showing something different, something that had been hidden before she was captured by him.

Her screams resonated through the cell block, and her screams reached my heart and pulled it.

I wished I could take away her pain, but I knew that I wouldn't be able to. I didn't want to stand idle, but that was all that I could do.

"She will be fine. She is much stronger than she was at thirteen," someone said from behind me. "And, she wasn't tortured beforehand."

I looked at Luna, keeping my face blank. I hadn't known that she had been tortured before her memories had been wiped. I remembered seeing her in pain during those nightmares, but I didn't recall her actually getting hurt. "What do you mean?" I asked.

Luna smiled gravely and shook her head. "You weren't the only one that she had visited," she said. She had this haunted look in her eyes, and I couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking. "She has a strong spirit," she mused.

"And, she is powerful." I turned to look at her when she screamed out in pain and winced as her markings shot out a flare of magic, almost blinding us. I quickly placed up a wall of my magic and grunted when hers crashed against it.

"She is a Goddess. Of course, she will be powerful." Luna sighed and shook her head. "She was made to be powerful, to be able to help us when we can't do something."

I let down the wall and turned to look at the beautiful female beside me. "And, she was a gift." I tried to keep the bitterness out of my tone, but I knew that a small bit came out. However, it looked like Luna didn't notice it.

Luna's face darkened as she nodded her head. Deep sadness and longing filled her eyes as she thought about the man she loved but wasn't given. "She couldn't produce one herself, and the Ancients were more than happy that I had offered to give them one."

"Without them knowing."

Luna nodded. "They'll know," she said. "She knows."

"She used to know," I reminded her. "They had changed that memory before he had gotten his hands on her. And, they changed the others as well."

"With your help," Luna reminded me. She looked at me, her gaze softening. "You wish that they had changed your memories as well."

I bit back a sigh and nodded my head. I hated seeing Sky looking at me as if I was somebody that wasn't worth her time. I hated that she disrespected me every single we had "met" because when she used to know me, I knew that she was joking. I knew that she didn't mean it.

"She still needed you to know her and what had happened," Luna said, watching as she rolled around in the cave, crying out in pain. "It was the only way for you to protect her."

Silently, I nodded my head. I moved a hand through my graying hair, feeling helpless as she still shook and screamed out in pain.

Her power was strong, stronger than I could have imagined, and I was surprised that the bars had held up this well.

"It was written in the stars," she mused, her gaze having this soft look in them. She always had that look in them when she talked about the stars. She understood them better than anyone else, even better than me. She could tell that what the Ancients were thinking when gazing up at them, and some days, I couldn't help but wonder what she saw in them.

I wondered if she saw us in them. I had loved her as much as she loved him. I would do anything to see her happy, but the one thing I couldn't do was kill another God. And, I knew that Sky wouldn't do that either. She cared about both of them too much.

I took a deep breath and nodded my head. I had no idea how long we stood there in silence until Luna placed her hand in mine.

I looked down at her and studied her profile before turning to look back at the crying female. I might not be written in her stars, but she was written in mine. And, it didn't matter what, I would always try to make her smile even if she could never be mine.
