"Tom," you breathed, running a hand hastily through your hair, "what are we doing?"

"I don't know." He whispered back, his face edging towards yours once again, "but it seems right." He pressed your lips together for the second or third time, waiting until you pulled away, breathless.

"Tom." You repeated, putting your hands onto his shoulders, "you're my best friend."

"And?" He said softly, going to kiss you once again.

You continued to speak, causing him to sit back, defeated."We shouldn't be doing this. Best friends don't sit all over each other and- and kiss on the couch!" You sighed, temporarily sitting back down next to him. "Please realise that what we're doing is wrong. I can't do this."

You stood up, dragging your hands down your face as you stood before him.
"Y/N." Tom pleaded, standing up as well, "if your problem is that we are best friends, then we- we don't have to be." He searched your face for an answer.

But the only thing he saw was regret in your eyes. He sat back down. There was no use. Silence filled the room like a blanket, its thickness only increasing the awkwardness.

"What are we going to do then?" Tom asked eventually, his lips still feeling the faint touch of yours.

You shrugged, rocking back and forth on your feet, "I don't know."
