It feels good to let someone be your everything
Because when you're around them
Everything feels good.
But when they leave you
You're left with nothing;
You're left alone.
You're left to rebuild yourself piece by piece
Without anything to hold you together
And keep you from breaking down.
When someone is your everything
You pin all your hope on them
You let them be your anchor
As you are tossed around by waves.
When they leave
You have nothing to protect you
From a brutal sea; a brutal world
And your brutal life.
You fight the water,
You struggle to remain afloat
In your sea of tears
And you find someone else
To ground you.
Each person that is your everything
Is special. Aren't they?
Unique, every single one.
They care for you and love you
And ground you and help you
And leave you.
Every single one.
Every one of them says that you are special
And beautiful and amazing and smart
And then they leave you and deny all of it.
When you've built a life around them
When you've built a home
They walk right out the door.
Everything is a lot.
But they say they can give you everything
They say they can make everything alright
They say they love everything about you
They say you are their everything...
And then they leave everything behind.
Because you were never anything to them
They make everything up
But still make up your everything.
Because you're desperate for anyone
You need someone to be your everything
Or else everything will fall apart.
But no one cares, do they?
Nothing is permanent anyway
Everything will break down some day
So when you're breaking down...
C'est la vie.
But of course, you'll find someone else
Someone else to be your everything
Someone else to love
Someone else to cherish
Someone else to pin your hope on
Someone else to build a world around
Someone else to destroy everything
And leave you
With nothing.
