For Now

Most aircraft accidents occur

During take off and landing

With this knowledge, my knuckles are white

From gripping my seat

As the pressure increases

And the altitude climbs.

I know that turbulence

Is not fatal

Yet every time this vehicle shakes

A shiver is sent up my spine.

I've been experiencing

A lot of turbulence lately.

A recent jolt made me feel

Like sobbing like the baby

Who's cries are currently

Being heard by everyone

On this flight.

Who's piloting this thing?

Who's piloting this life?

It should be me

But I feel like a passenger,

Fastened to a seat

And watching the journey

Through a small window,

Terrified and feeling helpless

When imagining a crash.

Everything looks so small from up here

Tiny lights sparkle in the distance

Like stars in constellations

But planned and countable

And then they are gone.

And it's just me

And the clouds

And a dark sky

That never seems to run out

Of unsolved questions and mysteries.

Despite everything that has happened
In the past few days

Here, soaring above the clouds

It really does look beautiful.

And then we will dip towards the earth

And we will land and everything will come
crashing towards me at full speed again.

But for now, I can't see the mess below

I only see sky and clouds.

For now, everything is okay

Well, as okay as it can be.

For now, I'm okay.
