Notre Dame

"There will be nothing left"

Of this work of art;

A part of history

That we are built on.

Our history is burning down

Right before our eyes

And what can we do to stop it?

"Everything is burning"

The pictures that you see

Show art going up in smoke

This building is supposed

To represent divine love

I guess love can burn too bright.

However it has been

In ruins before

Victor Hugo wrote a book

That drew the world's attention to it

When it was collapsing

And now, deep tolls of the bells

Take a grave toll on a culture's

Art, architecture, history...

And in many peoples' hearts.

It has survived battles

And the wicked hands of time

Yet in the midst of restoration

It catches fire.

Statues and other things

Have at least, been saved.

The media has fired up

Just like the spire that collapsed

And in the comments of the mourning

People are getting mad

"So I guess an old building

Is more important

Than entire cities in Syria

According to our world leaders

And the media"

The world is out of order

Come back another time

If you want to see it functional

For now, can we mourn this tragedy?

The others that were seemingly ignored

Don't deserve it

But everything doesn't need

To be a competition

Other tragedies don't deserve to be ignored

But neither does this one.

"Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire..."

On this day in 1912, the Titanic sank

And now the Notre Dame is on fire.

It's daunting, disheartening

Yet terrifyingly beautiful

I'm sorry for all

Who feels like they lost something

In that fire.

Because you did

You lost a part of your history.

Yes, it is a monument

Of an era of human cruelty

But does it need to be subjected

To this cruelty?

At least, the art hasn't been

Completely destroyed

The organ is still there

Along with the rose windows

It can be restored

At least, I hope so.

The rich are donating

To the cause

- Although some turn a blind eye

To schools in Yemen being bombed -

So it will be restored.

The spire fell

But the scaffolding is mostly up

Along with funds to help it.

A thought: In the future

This will be known as the day

The Notre Dame caught fire.

It has almost been lost before

This will happen again

It will continue to happen.

Material things can't last forever...

This is miserable

But it isn't over

The roof has caved in

The beams and pillars have collapsed

The spire has toppled

The stones have suffered

And their suffering isn't over

But it is not gone.

Renovation has to happen

Things break and crash and burn

And someday, this building

With all its cultural, religious, artistic and architectural importance and history

Will someday leave forever.

But today, it isn't over,

It's not gone.

A.N. Obviously, this is about the Notre Dame burning. Uhh as far as I know, it accidentally caught fire during restoration but luckily, many statues and stuff were taken out for restoration before the fire. The spire indeed collapsed and a lot of it was burnt but a lot is still there. The scaffolding is mostly there so ppl are confident it'll be rebuilt. (There's a 5 hour long video of it burning on YouTube) Yes, I know that many World Leaders, the media and many rich people who are donating to the cause of its renovation haven't done much for cities in Syria and stuff but ppl are allowed to be sad about the Notre Dame alrite.
Uhhhhhhh I put in quotes from some articles and a quote from the Bible so uh yea.
