Rabbit Hole

I won't go down that rabbit hole

With you again.

Maybe through a looking glass

Everything looks okay.

And although we might be

Eventually, you have to look away.

And it's nice to take a break

From the mad world up above

But even in that rabbit hole

I have no chance with love.

Is the Queen of Hearts heartbroken too?

Did she play all the wrong cards?

Or maybe she also knows

That the dice was loaded from the start.

Nevertheless you tossed my heart around

Like a ball in croquet

What exactly did you win from that game?

Did you toss your winnings away?

And the flowers are nice to talk to

Beautiful and sweet,

But until they wilt or you're pricked by a thorn

The cycle is not complete.

The butterflies are disappearing,

The birds don't fly so high,

And yet you're living with your head in the clouds,

Your eyes fixated on the sky.

I'll admit, your smile allured me

It was as bright as the moon

But everything is not as it seems.

And, with each other, we fell out of tune.

Our 'love' burned bright, now all that's left is ashes.

Who are you? I don't know you anymore,

I guess the smoke has blinded me.

Who are you? Where's the girl I loved before?

Roses look pretty but you never know

Where the thorn is placed.

People may seem kind but they will leave you

Don't fall into their embrace

Because one day,

Your emotions they'll deface

Sadly these thorns are nothing new

They're just commonplace.

The trail has been erased

We can't go back to the way things were.

We're lost in space

Well in a space where nothing is quite familiar.

There's no shortcuts this time

There's no end to the bad dream

Maybe we'll be alright

When I look through the looking glass again.

Now I float in an ocean of my tears,

The glass of the bottle I'm trapped in,

Doesn't help it only adds to my fears.

I've lost hope this nightmare will ever disappear.

Why can't this nonsense go away?

I'd give myself good advice

But I'd never follow it anyway.

Your world would be a wonderland

Each turn full of wonder

But there's also trauma in your wonderland

And equal to wonder is terror.

The beautiful flowers, the beautiful smiles

All of the good things will live in a ghost town

The exhilarating fall down the rabbit hole...

Sent me spiralling down.

And you'll say it's all in my head

And that we're all mad here.

But you haven't been down

And let me tell you,

It's worse than you could possibly fear.

I won't go down that rabbit hole

Although the flowers were sweet

Although the tea parties were inviting

Although the stories I heard

And the people I met were exciting

It all came to a head

And I was lost in a carnival of terrors

My once 'wonderland'

Was now a mad world too.

I won't go down that rabbit hole

With anyone

Ever

Again.
