Kamilla:
I wake up in a panic, my heart racing. When I open my eyes and take in my surroundings, I realize it was only a dream. My mind races, two nightmares in one day, this is not a good sign! I feel dread pooling at the pit of my stomach. My nightmares always feel so vivid and real, and I've always feared that they might be some sort of twisted premonitions. Wong told me that it happens to some people, that select people have been known to have prophetic dreams. I yawn, feeling tired and uneasy, as if I'm on pins and needles. Things have been so good, but I'm afraid that something is coming that will ruin everything. I steel myself and push the thoughts away. It was just a dream; it won't come true. I'm not crazy! I'm not! I just forgot to take my magically enhanced sleeping pills before bed.
I look at my watch, it's three in the morning, but I know I won't be falling back asleep anytime soon. I get out of bed and sit in the pilot's chair, then prop my feet up at the dashboard admiring the view. The stars in the Milky Way are twinkling brightly as we soar through space. I sigh, it's stunningly gorgeous and I marvel at the fact that I'm actually in space right now. I let the twirling swirl of colors in the bright sky distract me from my morbid thoughts. The ship is still and quiet until I hear the bedroom door creak open from the other side of the ship. I recognize the heavy footsteps as they approach me, so I call out, "Couldn't sleep?"
"Are you surprised?" Thor's voice replies.
I swing around in the chair, my eyes flicking over his tired face, "Is it the nightmares again?"
"Yes. You too?"
"Yes."
I gesture for him to join me and he slips into the seat next to me. "I guess some things never change."
"I guess not." He replies propping his feet up and leaning into the chair with a stretch.
We sit together quietly watching the stars pass us by, twinkling mysteriously in the distance. "Can you tell me a story? About Asgard I mean."
He shifts in his seat thoughtful for a moment then replies, "Of course. How about the story of how Odin trapped Surtur in Muspelheim?"
"You've told me that one before."
"Hmm, alright let me think... how about the time Loki dared me to go to Alfheim, home of the Light Elves. Have I told you that one?"
"No."
"Okay perfect." He grins excitedly, his bright blue eyes sparkling. "So, when we were very, very young Sif and I were... well, we were friends, but I wanted us to be more. We trained together every day and in my youth, I was enamored with her. I thought she was the most beautiful women I'd ever seen. And one day I made the mistake of confessing my true feelings about her to Loki. I told him how much I admired her strength, her bravery, her skill and her beautiful long golden-white hair. Loki was envious, and let it slip that he too harbored romantic feelings for Sif. I should have been kinder, but in my stupidity, I bragged that I was better than him and that Sif would not hesitate to choose me over him. A few days later he turned me into a frog out of spite."
As he speaks, I lean my head against his broad shoulders and close my eyes breathing in his comforting scent as I bask in the soothing heat that radiates off him. I listen carefully, letting his words wash away the images from my horrific nightmare. "Yes, that does sounds like Loki." I remark with a sigh.
He nods, "Aye, it does. It was the day I first kissed Sif. During Odin's annual festival, she confessed her feelings for me, and we spent the day together. But I acted like a complete oaf by rubbing it in Loki's face constantly. I kept taunting and instigating him until late that night, Loki snuck out to cut off all of Sif's golden hair and enchant her so that it would never grow back. When Sif woke up the next morning, she was both devastated and furious. So, in my rage I found Loki and demanded he fix it, but well... you know what that sourpuss is like."
