Emily's PoV

"The Volturi," Edward's angelic voice echoes around the room, "They are very old and very powerful family. You could call them the only leaders that my world has."

I stand in front of a large painting, dark colours engulfing the minimal lightness that spread throughout the image. I narrow my eyes onto the painting, recognising a face amongst the rest. It was Carlisle, he was standing a few metres away from who I assumed were the three leaders, Edward referring to them as vampire royalty.

"Is that Carlisle?" I hear Bella ask, she was leaning over my shoulder, her finger pointing to the only vampire with bright golden eyes.

Edward nods, "Yes. He lived with them for a few decades in his early life, described them as very refined, no respect for human life of course, but some respect for the arts and sciences at least. And the law above all."

I furrow my eyebrows, "Vampires have laws," my mind racing at the new information.

"Not very many, there's only one that's regularly inforced," Edwards answers.

"What is it?" Bella asks just as intrigued as myself.

I hear Edward sigh loudly.

"That we keep the existence of our kind a secret, we don't make spectacles of ourselves and we don't kill conspicuously," Edwards says, "unless of course you want to die."

"You got to stop talking bout that," Bella shakes her head reaching out for Edward's hand, "I can't even think about someone hurting you."

"Bella, the only thing that could hurt me is you, I don't have anyone else to be afraid of," Edwards says affectionately to Bella.

"That's not true," Bella frowns.

I move and take a seat on a small red chair next to the painting, "She is right you know, Victoria is still after you, since you killed James."

Edward gives me a pointed look, "Victoria, she'll come for me one day, Alice will see what she decides and we'll be ready."

"I could protect you..." I hear Bella say to him.

I frown and roll my eyes at Bella's constant dig at trying to persuade Edward to give her immortality.

I stand up and open the door, walking out of the room. I make my way towards the living room, leaning against the railing that overlooks everything.
