~Bex's POV~

"Are you going home tomorrow?" Marissa asks. Tomorrow is Halloween, which would usually make me bounce off the walls with joy, but not right now at least. My mind has been working in "overthinking" mode all day. I've thought about calling Atticus to talk, but every time put my phone down further away from me.
"I think so," I tell her. "My mom would probably kill me if I didn't or send my dad to drag me there." My mom also takes Halloween very seriously. My dad has always thought her and I were crazy people. Alaric isn't that crazy about it either. What's not to love about being to dress up as weird as possible and no one be allowed to judge you?
"Have you told them you're pregnant, yet?" She asks. I shake my head, eyes widening. Just the thought makes me nervous. I don't think they'll be mad, they would be complete hypocrites, but will be upset. Hell, I'm still upset about this. "Okay, well, I'm going to run errands. Zav said he was dropping by, so I'm leaving the door unlocked." She says. It's crazy how mature she sounds when she speaks, but she's one of the most immature people I've met.
"Okay," I say, laying down on my back. She opens the door and takes a big step back.
"Never mind. He's here," she says before letting him walk past her. He gives me a quick smile. She closes the door quietly when she leaves. Zav sits down on the edge my head, his hand resting on my leg.
"What the hell happened?" He asks, grabbing my hand and pulling me closer. His hazel eyes focus on the dark bruise in my upper arm from when Atticus grabbed me last night; thankfully, it didn't form in the shape of a handprint. If I had known Zav was coming I would have worn something to cover it to avoid his questions.
"I tripped yesterday putting on my shoes and my arm hit the edge of Marissa's desk," I lie, not wanting to cause more problems between Atticus and him. The bruise doesn't look at all like it could have come from that, but hopefully he doesn't think about it too hard. I'm sure his last theory would be that Atticus grabbed me.
"Fine," he says, letting me go. "I wanted to talk to you about something." Gesturing for him to continue, I push myself back further against my pillows. "It's Friday tomorrow, it's a three day weekend, we should go away for awhile." What kind of go away? Why? Who did you kill? Are you running from something? I can't be the one girlfriend who would be questioning her boyfriend if he just random wanting to "go away for awhile." Or am I just crazy?
"What do you mean?" I ask, tucking my hair behind my ears.
"I have to go to Mexico for three days; leaving at eight tomorrow morning. I figured since you have a three day weekend, you could tag along with me." Is he out of his mind? I can't go to Mexico with him for his "work". The shit he'll probably have to do over there gives me goosebumps.
"Are you sure that's a good idea? A safe idea?" He nods, rubbing my leg. Getting away wouldn't be so bad, especially after all the shit that's happened the last few months.
"Yeah, it's safe," he tells me. Knocking on the door takes my attention away from him. Taking my legs off his lap, I get up and answer the door. I'm only half surprised to see Atticus standing in the doorway. I'm happy he came here, at least I'm hoping he came to talk to me about last night, but I wish it was when Zav wasn't here.
    "Hey," he says, shifting uncomfortably.
"You need to leave," I say, stepping almost out of the door so I can whisper to keep Zav from overhearing. He scared me last night, and I'm terribly ashamed to admit that. Aren't I supposed to know he wouldn't physically hurt me? At least fully.
"Bex, I just came to apologize," he says. I look behind me to see Zav getting up. Fuuucckkkk. If growing up around Castel didn't kill me, these two will. "I didn't mean to do t-that last night. I don't know what came over me." My stomach drops when I feel a presence behind me.
"What happened last night?" Zav asks, already looking upset. Oh gosh, please don't you fight with me now. Atticus's eyes find the dark bruise thats left in my bruise from yesterday. I wasn't expecting to be as bad as it is. He follows his gaze down. "D-did you do this?" Zav asks him, gently raising my arm without hurting me. Atticus stays quiet, just looking at that spot like he's going to be sick. I force my arm away, my hands shaking nervously. "I'm going to fucking kill you this time."
I'm shocked when he gently pushes me to the side and goes after him. His elbow makes contact with his jaw, his head tilting back at the impact. Zav pushes him back by his shoulders, but it doesn't make him move. Atticus shoves his brother back, releasing a deep breath. I can tell it's taking a lot from him to not lose his temper.
"You need to leave," I say, my voice shaking. He rubs his jaw. I grab Zav by the arm, pulling him back. "We can talk later." He doesn't say anything else, just gives me a quick nod before walking back down the hall. Once he's far enough way I let go of Zav and close the door. "Why the hell would you hit him like that?"
"He put his hands on you, Bex," he says in defense for himself. "You really think I'm going to hear something like that and not try to beat his ass?" Yes, I was, but I realize how stupid of me that was.
"I'm okay, he didn't hurt me too bad. I was just shaken up last night," I tell him. He sits back down, pinching the tip of his nose.
"It doesn't matter how badly he hurt you, it's the fact that he did. Why were you over there in the first place?" I don't want to go into that right now. That will give him another reason to shame Atticus and that's not what I want. They're brothers, they should get along.
"That doesn't matter. Promise me you won't start anymore fights with him?" He looks away from me, shaking his head. His lips press together in a tight line. "Please. I don't like when you two don't get along."
"We never get along. He thinks he's better than-"
"See what you're doing right now? You're proving it's you too by talking about him like this. Try saying something nice for once about him."
    "His hair line is beautiful."
    "You're a dick."
     •••••

My phone ringing wakes me up from my nap. Zav shifts beside me, nuzzling his face in my neck. I grab it from beside me and answer Marissa's call. My eyes burn from the sun shining through the window.
"Bexley?" Marissa asks on the other line.
"Yeah?" My voice is raspy from sleep. My eyes flutter shut again.
"I just got a call from the Sheriff and Atticus got in a crash," she says. I shoot up, knocking Zav's arm off from my body. "They can't tell me anything about his condition unless I'm there. The traffic is terrible and you're only five minutes away."
Does she know how bad it was? If he's okay? Was anyone else hurt? There's so many questions I want to ask, but she's probably too freaked out to answer any of them. I get up, mentally deciding if I want to change into normal clothes or just take off in my pajamas.
     Pajamas win. They always do.
Zav rubs his eyes, bringing himself up into sitting position. "I'm leaving right now. I'll text you when I get there," I tell her before hanging up. I grab my hoodie from the closet and head outside.
"What's going on?" He asks, his voice the same as mine. If I wasn't freaking out, his sleepy voice would do things to me, but not under these circumstances.
"Atticus in a crash and is in the hospital. Marissa won't be here for awhile, so I'm gonna go," I tell him, sliding on my slippers. Once I'm in front of the mirror, I realize just how bad I look. I'm gonna walk in there looking like a drug addict. My mascara is smudged under and on top of my eyes from sleeping, my hair is crazy mess of curls, my right cheek is swollen from sleeping on it.
"You're kidding?" He asks, suppressing a smile. You've got to be kidding me.
"No, are you coming or staying?"
"I'll stay," he says. "Tell me when you get there, so I know you're safe." His words give that kiddish butterflies in my stomach feeling.
"I'll be back as soon as possible."
    •••••

I understand that I don't look my best, I don't look good at all, but no one in this town was taught to not stare at people when they aren't looking too hot. The moment I walked in the hospital I got wide eyed stares. I didn't think I looked that bad.
"I'm looking for an Atticus Corinthos," I tell the women at the front desk. She glances up at me quickly before starting to type his name into the computer. My hands shake at my sides.
"How long ago was he admitted?"
"I have no idea. He got in a car crash," I tell her, my brows pulling together. I should have asked Marissa that on the phone.
"He's in room 134. First hall, make a right," she tells me, handing me a visitor sticker. I turn around, putting the sticker on my hoodie and speed walking down the hall, following the direction she told me. He's already in a room; that's a good sign, right? It's at least letting me know the asshole isn't dead.
Looking up to see the room numbers, I jog towards 134. The blinds in front of the small window in the door are shut, not letting me see if he's awake or if anyone is in there with him. What if a doctor is doing something? I overthink too much.
Twisting the knob, I pull the door open. The only noice in the room is the beeps from the heart monitor and the TV that's on low volume. Atticus lays on the bed, his head turned to the right of him to look out the window.
"Atticus?" I ask to get his attention, still not sure if he's awake or not. He turns his head my direction, eyes low. The door shuts behind me as I walk towards the bed. There's a wrap around his stomach and cuts all over his neck and arms, and smaller ones on the left side of his face. His breathing is deep and loud, sounding as if it's a struggle for him.
"Hey," he says, his voice broken. I pull the chair that's in the corner closer to the bed and sit down, setting my phone on my lap. I'm still waiting for Marissa to reply to my text saying I'm here.
"What happened?" I ask, examining the cuts on his face. They look like they came from small shards of glass.
"I got called in for a chase. He took a sharp turn and the guy in front of to the side of me stopped, making Tobias crash first, then me. I can't really remember what happened," he tells me. I wonder if Alaric knows about Tobias or if he's even here too.
"Thank god nothing bad happened. Have they told you anything?" I say. He takes a deep breath, pushing himself further up, wincing. I wang to grab him to stop him from moving anymore, but he's much more stronger than me. "Or have the given you anything?"
"Yeah, the nurse came in about twenty minutes ago and gave me something for the pain," he tells me. "They said I passed out, they think because of the impact. When the car beside me crashed into my car, it broke two of my ribs, and my wrist is broken."
"Sounds fun." I don't know what else I'm supposed to say. Am I supposed to stay here until Marissa shows up? Was my job only to see that he's okay? "You're breathing hard. Why?"
"The pain in my ribs hasn't gone away yet. It hurts every time I breath out," he tells me. I get up, grabbing his left hand and placing it over his ribs. "That hurts," he groans through clenched teeth.
"Put pressure. It'll hurt at first, but it'll help," I tell him. I don't know if that'll work for sure, I read once and it stuck in my mind. He does as told, squeezing his eyes shut before releasing a deep breath.
"You don't have to stay for long," he says. Part of me wants to get up and leave, but the other part wants to stay to make sure that he stays okay. The door to the room opens, making me sit forward. A young looking nurse with short, straight blonde hair walks in holding one of those weird ice pack things. It's always confused me how you just squeeze them and BOOM they're cold.
"I'm just coming in to give you this Incase you need it. Just squeeze and it should start to get cold," she says sweetly, handing it to me. I give her a small smile before watching her walk back out. When I look back at him, his eyes are closed, lips parted.
"Get some sleep," I tell him. He mumbles something against the pillow that I can't understand. "Goodnight."
    •••••

Once he fell asleep, he was out for the whole night. I decided to stay after Marissa came, knowing she still didn't know anything about what happened. Nurses came and went from the room to check on his vitals and asking me questions that I hardly knew the answers to. I filled out some papers for him, telling the nurses I was his fiancé so they would let me. There were some spaces I had to leave blank, not knowing that information until he wakes up.
I'm tired, but very much happy that I decided to take a nap yesterday before coming. If it weren't for that I would struggling to stay awake. I slept maybe an hour since I came here, finding some time between people coming in and out.
The nurses have been calling me Mrs.Corinthos since I lied and said we were engaged; and let me tell you something, nothing has ever find more strange. It's not a bad feeling, it almost sounds right, but it's so foreign. I've always taken pride in my maiden name, so it's weird to hear something else for the first time in my life.
"Bex," Atticus mumbles, surprising me. I look over at him, not knowing he was awake. "You stayed?" He asks. I nod, bringing my legs up to my chest in the chair that I've been sitting in for hours.
"I wanted to make sure you weren't gonna die in your sleep or something. I'm not wanting to attend a funeral anytime soon," I joke. He shakes his head, a small smile on his face.
    "You look tired."
"I am; I haven't slept much. I've been talking to the nurses when they come in to see what they're doing and if anything's changed." My face heats up. I shouldn't care so much still.
"You didn't have to do that."
"Would you have rather Marissa handle this shit?" He shakes his head, eyes wide. "Exactly." Marissa would probably scribble rainbows on the papers. "How're your ribs feeling?" I ask, getting up and pressing my hand against the wrap. He flinched, hands balling up into fists. "I'm sorry," I say, handing him the ice pack the nurse handed me last night. He takes it and squeezes it. "Although, you didn't deserve getting in a bad crash, you did deserve getting hit yesterday." His eyes meet mine.
"I know I do," he says. "I don't know what was going on with me the other night. I was just so-"
"You were mad, I was here, and you aimed it at me. It's a normal thing to do, you just took it too far. I forgive you, just never put your hands on me again, unless I swear I will kill you myself. I know what that shit feels like, and I'm not going through that again."
"Sucks that we have to have this conversation in a hospital," he says, looking around the room. I put my head down, laughing. "I bet Zav is throwing a party because this happened."
"Oh, he is." When I told him what happened through text he didn't seem to care very much. He texted me again this morning asking if I was going to leave with him to Mexico, but I denied, finding it more important to stay with Atticus. I don't think that would be a good idea anyways. I don't know what could happen over there with his job.
"Thank you for staying with me," he says, his eyes soft. I shrug, looking down at my hands, sitting back down. "How are you feeling since your...you know."
"Pregnant? It's not a bad word, Atticus. Thankfully, I've been feeling fine. I don't get morning sickness hardly all," I tell him. He nods, looking uncomfortable with the subject, but he was the one who brought it up.
"I'm gonna be the uncle to my ex girlfriends baby," he says with a laugh. "Are you happy about it?" I'm glad he's talking to me about this normally now. If this was night before last he would be yelling at me.
"I am, but not as happy as I maybe should be. The situation sucks since I'm young and in school, but I'm confident that everything will work out," I tell him. "Everything happens for a reason."
"God help you if it's a boy," he says. I've already thought about that. He will put me through hell. I want a girl. Whenever I've imaged myself having a family of my own, I've pictured myself with a daughter. "It's gonna be a girl though."
"What makes you say that?" I ask.
   "Just a hunch."
