Drowning in Awkwardness

"(F/N)!" A voice shouted. I opened my mouth only for a cold liquid to enter closing my lungs as they burned. "(F/N)!"

A loud banging came from in front of me. I banged on it but my movements came out sluggish as I felt the cold metal. It was cold.

The banging from the other side didn't stop. "She's in here!" The voice shouted as the metal warmed up a bit. "Come on (F/N)."

I noticed a small glow coming from my neck. I looked down at seeing the sword on my neck glowing illuminating the area a bit. I wrapped my fingers around the cold metal yanking it off making the sword expand. It brightened my surroundings a little more. There was metal in front of me with a line in the middle of it. My eyes widened as I saw three familiar fish with me.

"Mistress!" Pyro cried looking at me as he stayed moved Jerry closer to me.

I shook off my shock as I looked back at the door. "(F/N)!" I wedged my sword in between the two plates. It slid in with ease and I rest my feet against the door and started pushing the plates away from each other. I bite my tongue as I pushed the sword away from me. A thin light streak enters the room as the dark liquid spilled out. The three fishes stayed near me watching curiously.

I jumped a bit as a piece of a spear was wedged above my sword. The tip was bronze with a wooden shaft. The spear was pointed at me as the person pushed the other way. Eventually, the doors caved letting the liquid spill out along with me. I took a deep breath as I took in a deep breath of water.

"Water!" Jerry's cried in my head.

"Here you go, guys." The fishes let out cheers as a hand enter my blurry vision. I looked up to see a boy with messy black hair and dark eyes.

"We need to go." He said. I nodded grabbing his hand as he pulled me up with ease. Instead of removing his hand he just held mine loosely. His face was red and he refused to look at me.

"Jean? (F/N)?" My eyes fluttered open to see yellow and I felt the extra weight on me. Once I opened my eyes the yellow got stuck in my hair making me hiss in pain. I shoved the weight off of me which resulted in Jean snapping awake as he rubbed his head in pain.

Mrs. Blofis chuckled at us. I sat up stretching. "Its time for school." She announced.

I groaned leaning my head against the couch. "We went yesterday," I whined.

Mrs. Blofis just ruffled my messy hair affectionately. "Yesterday was Monday you have four more days left."

Jean stood up rubbing his head. "I-I'm gonna go get dressed." He yawned picking up his glasses before disappearing out my door.

I got up afterward leaving my blanket on the couch. "Where's my mom?" I asked curiously.

"She uh-" she paused as she sat on the couch. "(F/N) your parents have jobs that make them need to spend a lot of time away from home-"

"She and my dad aren't coming?" I cut her off. She nodded. I sighed rubbing a hand through my (H/L) (H/C) hair trying to tame it. I should've expected it. My mom is a historian of sorts. Right now her main focus was on shipbuilding and how it's changed over the years. My dad was some kind of salesperson, I think. I haven't seen the guy for like five months. Him being gone wasn't anything new, I wonder if that why I made up my imaginary friend in the first place.

I quickly got dressed in a clean uniform but let my tie lay untied. I'm going to let Jean tie it again. Mrs. Blofis was in the living room with a phone in her hand most likely trying to look for her son. Mrs. Blofis also had an older son. She hasn't told me much about him but from what I've gathered apparently Mrs. Blofis used to date someone and when she got pregnant the guy disappeared. And apperently her son has been missing for about 11 months now. At least that's what my mom told me.

Mrs. Blofis was definitely a strong-willed woman. And if anyone couldn't see that it was their loss. I admire her a lot. She feels more like a mother to me than my own.

Mrs. Blofis smiled once she saw me and stood up. "We better get going you wouldn't want to be late on your second day to school." Her eyes landed on my shirt where my sword necklace laid in between the thin red tie that was untied. "Wh-Where did you get that?"

Wait. I eyed her curiously. "You can see it?" I asked surprised.

She tilted her head at me confused. "Of course I can see it." She tilted her head at me. "Why?"

My brain was racing with thoughts. It was a gift from my imaginary friend which is weird in itself but for someone else to see it. Did I steal it and just pretended he gave it to me? I shook my head no way. I have a camera in my house Mrs. Blofis would've noticed. Does that mean my friend was real? No. No person could vanish as he could.

"I-I got it from Jean. Yeah, he uh got for my birthday." I lied which immediately made me feel bad. Lying to Mrs. Blofis is like lying to my own soul times a million.

Her earlier demeanor seemed to sadden a bit. Mostly likely because it was my birthday and my parents weren't coming home. But she smiled at me. It wasn't forced or anything. "Happy Birthday your finally a teenager."

I couldn't help but returned the smile happily. She was very nice.

Time Skip

Grover stood in front of the school nervously swinging on his crutches. He looked worried. I wonder what happened? "Thanks again Mrs. Blofis." Jean smiled as he opened the door.

But she wasn't paying attention instead she was looking at Grover whose eyes seemed to have widened in shock.

"Bye Mrs. Blofis," I said getting out of the car with Jean. She seemed to snap out of her daze as she looked at Jean and me. Instead of her happy glance, she seemed concerned.

"Have a good day. I'll be here to pick you up." She said. We nodded in sync before walking over to Grover. I could feel her gaze on the back of our heads.

I looked at Jean who looked at me. We both knew something was wrong. Jean pulled on a forced smile as we got closer to Grover.

"Grover! How are you doing?" Jean asked the pale boy as he jumped at the outburst.

"Ble-" Grover quickly covered his mouth blushing a bit. "I-I'm good. How are you guys?"

"Great. (F/N) is finally thirteen, she's becoming a young woman." Jean said slinging an arm around me.

At least I had Jean with me who eased me from the earlier tension. "Finally." I breathed a laugh. Grover laughed but it seemed a bit forced as he looked around.

"Is something wrong, dude?" Jean inquired leaning closer to the flustered teen.

"N-No." Grover stuttered looking to the ground. "We better get to class before we're late."

Grover walked inside leaving Jean and me outside. His arm was still around my shoulders a bit.

"Does something seem off to you?" I asked curiously looking to where Grover once stood.

"Yeah, I think Mrs. Blofis and Grover know each other," Jean noted.

Thunder rumbled above us as ominous black clouds rolled in.

"And it's going to rain, how cliche." Jean sighed.

"It is cliche what is this a movie?" I laughed trying to lighten the mood. "Grover is right we should probably go before we're late."

Jean nodded before we headed inside the school. Little did we know this would be the last time we would be going through this entrance.
