I wonder how Nico was doing. Jean and I just got done speaking to our parents, help saving a camp from total destruction and had to argue why we needed to live. Well, technically we just told them we were in business and the Romans except it. Roman's are laid back, what was Jason so worried about? They did threaten to kill us, sure but we literally just told them we were on some divine mission and they accepted it at face value. It probably helped that we mentioned Jason, that is the second time Jason has indirectly saved me from a bunch of assumptions.
Jason was definitely a big brother to me.
Anyways back to Nico. I really miss the little threatening cupcake. Hopefully, he's safe, then again he is back in his kingdom? Was the Underworld a kingdom? Did that make Nico a prince?
I shook my head trying to focus on the sunset in front of me. I sat on Neptunes 'temple' it was basically an outhouse with the big and mighty Jupiter temple next to it. I had a strange urge to burn the Jupiter temple down.
Jean was acting weird before Nico left. Something about the purgatory for monsters known as Tartarus was there. And Nico wandering too far in the Underworld. If Nico is the son of Hades then he should be able to go anywhere in the Underworld. Unless Tartarus isn't part of the Underworld.
Maybe it was like its own world full of dead monsters. I wonder if the Chimera and Medusa are there.
"Hey." A voice greeted snapping me out of my thoughts. I turned around to see Hazel smiling at me. "Can i-" she pointed next to me.
I sent her a cheerful grin nodding my head. "Yeah, I don't mind just watching the sunset," I said gesturing to the low sun.
Hazel sat next to me crossing her legs as we looked at the sun. It seemed to make New Rome shine because of all the gold. The sun seemed to hit all the gold making it brighter than it should have.
"It been a while since I've seen a sunset," I confessed leaning backward on my palms.
"Really?" Hazel asked looking genuinely surprised. "I've always watched the sunsets."
"The view is nice better than New York at least," I told her. New York has a lot of skyscrapers and it was kind of hard looking for a decent view of the sun because of them.
Hazel hummed in agreement. "Are you really planning on crossing the Atlantic Ocean with us?" Hazel asked. I looked at her only to find she was looking at me with furrowed brows. She looked concerned.
"Yeah, I got my own ship and everything." I declared proudly. "Jean and I might have to go shoplift supplies," I said tipping my chin in thought. Jean and I could probably steal an entire cart full of stuff for the trip.
Hazel looked down at her lap like and bite her lip. I noticed a piece of silver popped up on the roof. I stared at it intently. When did that get there? Then I noticed the small crack in the roof. Did it come from inside?
"I need to tell you something about Nico." For a split second, I could feel my heart drop. When people say that in movies it's never good. "Nico got kidnapped."
"Wh-When?" I asked with wide eyes. My heart was pounding in my chest but I did my best to ignore it. Guilt was creeping up but I shook it off.
Hazel looked just as panicked as me. At least I wasn't alone. "Yesterday Thanatos, the god of death, said wed find the answer in Rome."
"So he's in Rome." I deciphered. Man, I haven't met a lot of gods but they seemed to be vague at least Poseidon got straight to the point.
Hazel nodded nervously fidgeting. She was worried about her brother. If Nico got kidnapped, whoever kidnapped him must've been powerful. And I just really wanted to pound their face in.
"Don't worry Hazel. We'll get him back." I assured him my voice not breaking because I was confident, naive but confident. "And I'll definitely give the guys who took him a good pounding and then I'll hit him."
That got me a small laugh from Hazel. It made me smile a bit too. She was nice, unlike a certain boy.
"You know when Nico told me about you he said you were great," I said trying to keep her mood up. Hazel smiled looking as the last of the sun disappeared.
"Thanks, (F/N). I know we'll find him together." Hazel told me.
Jean's Point of View
"So, you just sacrifice stuffed animals?" I asked curiously as Octavian ripped opened another stuffed bunny. Its stuffing fell out like organs onto the alter. I couldn't help but grimace that poor stuffed animal.
Octavian didn't bother to look my way. "Yes we used to use animal guts but it got too messy," Octavian responded as I inched closer to his side to look over the bowl. "See this one says-" he paused with widened blue eyes. I could tell it wasn't good. It almost seemed like his entire life was crashing down.
Wait. No. No. "Wh-What is it?" I asked nervously grinning trying to act oblivious. I noticed the grip on his small dagger seemed to tighten.
Octavian took a deep breath before turning to look at me. "It said: the geese has cried." Did he just lie? His eye seemed to twitch in irritation. Maybe Apollo was right, for once.
I nodded trying to loosen up a bit. He would definitely notice if I acted differently. "Cool. It's weird we both have the blood of Apollo but I can't read stuffing."
Octavian smirked proudly tossing aside the bunny's stuffless body aside. There was a small pile of stuffed animal bodies in the room. "Of course being the augur is an important job."
"Really, doesn't Reyna call all the shots?" I asked remembering how easily the girl managed to win against Octavian. I was definitely going to ask her on a date, eventually.
Octavian grumbled to himself picking a stuffed raven from his belt of animals. He held the stuffed animal and stuffed animals with narrowed eyes. "She is a praetor along with Jason." Is that jealously I hear?
"You want to a praetor?" I guessed. The man didn't seem to like Reyna and especially not Jason. Poor girl, she seemed to tolerate Octavian for some reason. Wait. No. No. Ew. I was quick to shake that thought out.
"Yes," Octavian admitted glaring furiously at the alter.
Sociopathic? He cuts open stuffed animals, there's something broken in there. But he didn't seem bad, well not as bad as Nero which isn't saying too much. What if he was a bit sociopathic? That doesn't give Apollo the right to just toss him out like last week's trash.
Nope, I was going to become Steven Universe and redeem this poor soul. He seemed like a Lapis. A stuffed animal murderer Lapis.
"So, you're named after the Octavian the Roman Caeser after Julius got killed?" I already knew the answer but I might as well ask. Maybe hell be nicer if I can show him I know a lot about Rome, historically.
Octavian looked mildly surprised by it. "You know Roman history?" Octavian asked crossing his arms over his chest.
"Well yeah, it was technically the biggest empire in history and one of the most powerful," I admitted with a shrug. The Greek empire wasn't bad but it wasn't as big as Rome. "They managed to change an entire calendar just because they wanted too."
Octavian nodded in agreement. He seemed to enjoy knowing even a lowly Greek knew of Rome's greatness. Well before it fell to barbarians.
I felt I was slightly bonding with him.
