Chapter 4

Chaeyoung didn't mind people staring at her.

It was a daily thing she had to endure. She would also be at the receiving end of a lot of boys' and girls' attempts to ask her out or chat her up. Whether it be the Jocks who kept on promising to score a 3 point shot for her or knock the goalie down for her, the Singers who told her they'd write a song about her beauty, the Dancers who keep asking if she'd come with them and watch a dance they choreographed, and the Intellectuals who spoke about her and to her with every highfalutin word in the dictionary. She would always politely brush off their attempts though.

She didn't want to date anyone. Well, she did want to date someone.

That someone was currently holding her books with her left arm while having Chaeyoung's left arm linked through her right. Jennie walked significantly slower than usual making sure that Chaeyoung was alright. She still thinks the younger girl wasn't feeling well since she looked so red all throughout class earlier.

On the other hand, the younger girl's cheeks were still red from giddiness and slight embarrassment since her body is basically leaning on Jennie's for 'support' as the older girl explained earlier when she ordered Chaeyoung to lean against her and link their arms together. The older girl genuinely thought she wasn't feeling well.

It's not a hidden secret that the Parks and Kims had a good relationship with each other. Nor was it a secret that Chaeyoung and Jennie grew up with each other. Everyone knew they were close since their fathers were best of friends. But no one knew why or how they drifted apart. The whole country watched the girls grow up. Jennie's success was plastered all over the news. While Chaeyoung's talents and beauty was admired in every social media platform there is, from television to youtube.

They were heiresses of the richest families in the country.

But seeing Chaeyoung and Jennie together outside business/family gatherings was definitely a rare sight to see. This caused shock to all of the student body seeing the two not only walking closely to each other but arms intertwined with their usually cold as ice Headmaster looking at Chaeyoung like she was the most fragile thing in this world. You could say it caused a huge buzz in the university.

Once they reached Jennie's office, she guided the younger girl to the couch while placing their things on the coffee table in front of them

Once they reached Jennie's office, she guided the younger girl to the couch while placing their things on the coffee table in front of them. Jennie placed her right hand on top of Chaeyoung's forehead trying to gauge her temperature. She frowned and stood up to get her some water. Sitting back down, she offered the glass to the younger girl.

"Are you not taking care of yourself again?"

"I am" Jennie rose a perfectly sculpted eyebrow at this.

"I just didn't get to finish breakfast this morning because I was running late." Chaeyoung said timidly.

Because I just found out were getting married 6 months from now.

Chaeyoung thought as she sipped from her glass while looking at the older girl.

"It's a good thing I'll be taking care of you from now on then, huh?"

Chaeyoung was in the middle of gulping down her water when she heard this which caused her to cough rather violently from what Jennie just bluntly said. She heard the older girl giggle while reaching for the tissue box on the coffee table. Offering the tissue box to her, Jennie observed the younger girl while stroking her back to ease her from coughing too much with a smirk adorning her face.

Chaeyoung finally stopped coughing and was now fiddling with the buttons on her coat. The older girl seemed to notice this and gently covered Chaeyoung's hands with her one of her own, effectively stopping the younger girl's fiddling.

With this, Chaeyoung sighed feeling her cheeks heat up again, she timidly looked up into Jennie's eyes and whispered softly. "You've always taken good care of me, Jendeukie."

Jennie's eyes slowly widened at what she heard. Her mouth was slightly agape while staring back into Chaeyoung's expressive eyes. Before Jennie could react, the younger girl kept rambling, her chipmunk cheeks puff out and all Jennie could think about was how much she wanted to kiss her cheeks.

"Mianhe Jendeuk. I honestly didn't know my parents had an absurd plan like this. I don't know what your parents told you but I assume it's same as what mine did. I understand if you refuse to marry me, not that I would force you to marry me because I would never do that to you! I know I'm such a handful and I stress you out a lot even since we were kids, honestly why would you marry me I don't even—"

Hearing Chaeyoung assume she didn't want to marry the younger girl snapped Jennie out of her haze and she quickly cut the girl off. Tilting her head slightly to the side, eyebrows furrowing in disagreement.

"No one needs to force me to marry you Chaeng."

It was the younger girl's turn to gape at Jennie.

Realizing what she said, Jennie cleared her throat and sat up straight facing the girl beside her. Letting her dominating presence take over, she squeezed the girl's hands that were still clasped under her right hand.

"I understand that it's a shock for the both of us considering our situation. But how bad could it be? I've known you longer than anyone on this planet. I'd rather be arranged married to my best friend than some weird old stranger out there."

Jennie scrunched her face in disgust and shot the younger girl her best gummy smile that made Chaeyoung release a timid giggle at the older girl's antics. She called me her best friend.

Jennie paused for a moment. Looking into the younger girl's eyes she whispered.

"So what do you say Park Chaeyoung? Will you marry me?"

Chaeyoung's breath got caught in her throat. Her brain seemed to stop functioning as she stared into her love's eyes. She's been wanting and dreaming for this moment. It just made her heart constrict when she remembered that Jennie isn't really proposing to her out of love. The older girl is just being her selfless self, making her feel better by agreeing to marry the younger girl out of pity and convenience. She quickly pushed the thought aside when she saw Jennie lean head face closer to hers.

"I promise to cook all the Kimchi Fried Rice your chipmunk heart desires."

Chaeyoung felt her cheeks heat up more than it already did that day. Hoping that Jennie could see that she was serious and genuine. She mirrored Jennie's hopeful eyes and stared directly into the girl's cat-like orbs.

"Only for you, Jennie Kim. Yes."
