As soon as my alarm clock went off, I turned it off and threw it across the room. I didn't want to go to practice. Media day way already hectic enough. Especially when you hate having your picture taken. I quickly got dressed, did all my morning routines, and headed off to practice on an empty stomach. I still hadn't done any shopping so there isn't any food in the house except for dog food.
Practice went slow for the most part. We had a small scrimmage at the end. Purple vs. Yellow. I was on Purple team. We were dominating the Yellow team right from the beginning. The scrimmage ended with a massive and rare dunk from Candace Parker. Coach brought us into a huddle, talked about what we needed to work on, and we all yelled Sparks on three. She sent us off to the locker room to change afterwards. I decided to stick around and work on the things that coach said I needed to work on. I shot up a corner three. Candace ran over and blocked it.
"Ya know, when coach tells us to go to the locker room and get on out of here, people normally want to do that." she said. I showed no emotion as the ball bounced over to me. I kicked it up into my hands and shot another three. This time, Candace didn't block it.
"I have to go shopping for food. Do you know any good places to go to?" I asked. A smile appeared on her face. I immediately regretted asking.
"I actually have to go food shopping as well, why don't we go together?" she asked. It took me awhile, but I eventually said yes. We made our way to the store.
"So, how are you liking LA so far?" she asked as we entered one of the aisles.
"Pretty good. I mean I do have a good looking neighbor to top it off." I said. Candace let out a laugh.
"That's a pretty nice house ya got."
"Ya, my dad bought it for me. That's how I was able to afford it." The rest of the shopping was silent. When we were done, we exchanged numbers and went our separate ways. I got a text from her when I got home to go to the beach. Instead of going, I made up a lie about being busy. My sister was coming in town for the first game of the season against us. I would probably just video call her the whole night anyways. In fact, I called her on skype while I was putting the groceries away.
"Hey hey hey!" Kylie said when she answered.
"Hey loser!" I said. Kylie rolled her eyes at me.
"The last time we talked on Skype, what was wrong?" I thought about telling her a lie, but she would be able to tell if I was lying. She would probably not believe me if I told her the truth either. I'll just go with the truth and see where it'll take me.
"The truth?" She nodded her head. "Every time mom or dad or anybody talks to us and asks us both the same question like mom did, nobody cares about me in the situation. I'm always ignored. I just got sick of it and left the conversation. Did I ever get the chance to answer moms question before she moved Onto the next subject? No!"
"Ally, why don't you stop letting her and dad and everybody in the world walk over you."
