"You sure this is a good idea?"
Percy glanced at his best friend of twelve years. She seemed as calm as ever, but her eyes told a different story. He knew she was nervous.
"If we just kiss each other now, we won't have to worry about our first kiss anymore," he reasoned. "If you still want you, I think we should."
Annabeth stayed quiet for a few moments before pulling Percy closer. Her fingers fluttered on his neck as they sat face-to-face.
Without another word, he leaned in and kissed her.
Percy knew he had a crush on Annabeth when he was thirteen. But now, three years later, he thought he might even be in love with her.
He pulled away after a few minutes, but she pulled him right back, wanting more. Her fingers dug into his hair as her lips moved in sync against his.
They finally had to separate for air. Annabeth stared at her best friend of twelve years. His eyes were swirling.
"I'm moving tomorrow," she said. "That's why I wanted to do this."
Percy frowned. "Wait, what?"

*three years later*
Percy walked into his favorite coffee shop, even happier than usual. His insides still did that twisty thing whenever he saw Annabeth.
About two weeks ago, a friend had told him that she got into Columbia, and she was going to be only six miles away from Percy's school.
He sat down across the table from her.
They didn't say anything for a while, they just smiled at each other as if no time had passed. Annabeth reached out for Percy's hand and squeezed it.
She said, "I never really got the chance to tell you that you're a really good kisser."
