Catos PoV
"CATO CATO!!!!" she screams, "CATO!"
I push harder. I run to the point where I'm sure my legs will fall off.
I need to get to her. I need to.
I try to run faster, but it is literally impossible.
"CATO!"
"CLOVE! CLOVE I'M COMING CLOVE!"
I finally come to the clearing of the cornucopia, and pull out my spear, just in time to see the rock collide with Cloves skull, as she crumples to the ground.
I gasp and freeze in place.
"Cl-clove"
I race over to her, just as fire girl and Thresh leave.
"Clove! Clove!"
I bite my lip as I notice the huge dent in her skull.
"C-cato..." she croaks.
I see the wet tears trickling down her cheeks as she stares up at me.
I scoop her tiny frame up in my arms and clutch her to my chest.
"It's ok baby, you're gonna get out. It's ok. I've got you. I've got you."
"Cato," She says, barely whispering, "I-I don't...I- don't want to die."
I gulp and try to hold back the onslaught of tears threatening to spill.
"Please stay with me! Stay with me!"
"It hurts,"
"I know baby. But it-it's ok! You're coming home with me baby," I coo into her ear.
"N-no Cato! Cato I-I'm...I'm dying Cato."
Her voice is choked with tiny sobs as she tightens her grip on my arm.
I lean down and kiss her forehead, despite the sticky blood, plastered through out her hair.
"Kiss it better Cato." she breaths.
I lean down again and brush my lips against hers. I swish her hair out of her face and try to rub away some of the blood from her pale, freckled face.
I need to see her beautiful eyes.
"You're ok Clover. It's going to be ok."
She takes a large shaky breath and whimpers slightly.
"Clove. You know that I love you. And I will love you forever. Forever and ever. Just please stay with me."
She lets out another tiny whimper and I nestle her head into my chest.
"Stay! Please," I plead.
"Cato?"
"What is it baby?"
"I...I love you. I love you Cato."
She takes a deep inhale and slowly lets go.
"Clover! No!" Tears pour from me cheeks onto her perfect face as she gently closes her eyes. "Clover! Stay! Stay with me! Stay!" I beg.
"I love you Cato."
"Stay with me Clover! I- I need you!"
Her eyes flutter to glance up at me, then close again.
I feel her go limp in my arms, and the cannon sounds.
"C-clove? Clove! Clove! NO NO NO! CLOVE!"
I scream at the air.
I scream curses at the game makers, at Snow, at Thresh, at Fire girl.
I scream, and yell until my throat is raw.
"YOU TOOK HER!" I hiss at the sky, "You took- you took my life away."
I see the hovercraft coming my way and tighten my grip on Cloves dead body.
"NO!" I shout at the craft as the claw comes down. "no. No no."
The claw reaches for her body and I give up and gently release it, but not before planting one more kiss, on her cold, lifeless lips.
"I'll see you soon Clover."
