Chapter 21

The clock struck five. Adhyayan was waiting at the secluded spot of the Kalkaji Temple premises, behind the Bhairav temple with the big black bag.

He had already paid his regards to the revered Kalka Devi and had offered his prayers. He trusted on the Almighty and wished for justice as he waited for the cunning food inspector.

He wondered that the corrupt food inspector had no fear of the God in his sly eyes as Mr. Kaushik had made up his mind to take bribe and commit a crime right under the nose of the Goddess Kalkaji in the temple premises. Adhyayan had faith that the Almighty would punish the corrupt food inspector definitely.

His trance of thoughts was broken by the ringing of his phone. He received the call only to hear the hoarse voice of the CBI officer Mr. Aditya Bhardwaj saying, “Position taken. Don’t worry”.
Adhyayan mumbled a ‘thanks’ and the line went dead. He saw a text of Nikhil in which it was written,
Brother, don’t worry. I will record everything.

Adhyayan wrote ‘Thanks’ and shoved his phone in the pocket of his trousers. He was cluelessly waiting for the corrupt food inspector to come.
As it was five minutes past five, Mr. Kamlesh Kaushik made a dramatic entry.

Wearing a crisp white shirt whose buttons were ready to jump off from the area of his huge belly thereby, tearing off his clothes; Mr. Kaushik had a big red mark of vermillion on his forehead, indicative of the fact that the corrupt food inspector had offered his prayers in the temple moments ago.

“Hey, Mr. Joshi. What about your talks boasting righteousness? You said I can do whatever I want. So why are you here Mr. Joshi?” the corrupt food inspector said with a sly grin on his face.

“Sir, having said that I would not pay the bribe, I realized you are capable of ruining my career. So, I decided to make this deal with you”, Adhyayan said in a helpless tone. He wanted to punch the officer hard but he knew he had to act wisely.

“So you were afraid of me that I would release the fake reports of the food samples from your restaurant in media”, the food inspector said laughing at the celebrity chef’s upset face.

“Sir, please take the twenty lakhs you demanded and send the right reports”, Adhyayan said internally smirking at the guileful food inspector realizing Mr. Kamlesh Kaushik was trapped in his own plan.

“Give me the money and get lost hurriedly”, the food inspector said as he snatched the big black bag from Adhyayan’s hand.

As soon as Nikhil captured this scene, he gestured the CBI officials to do the needful. The CBI team who were surrounding the food inspector ran towards him.

The senior most officer, Aditya said, “You are under arrest, Mr. Kaushik”, as his subordinates gripped the free hands of the food inspector.

Kamlesh Kaushik was visibly terrified, he howled, “No, I am innocent…….. I have not done anything……. This man is misleading you…….. There is a conspiracy going on……… Please, officer this is a misunderstanding”, but his pleas went to deaf ears.

The celebrity chef Adhyayan Joshi smirked at him when the media emerged from the nearby bushes and began to shoot the whole corruption scandal.

Kamlesh Kaushik kept on screaming like a mad man when the CBI team took him towards their vehicle protecting against the media. While the CBI officer, Mr. Aditya Bhardwaj answered the media queries, his subordinates silently picked up the big black bag of old newspapers and few bundles of five hundred rupee notes as a formality to collect the evidence of bribe.

The celebrity chef, Adhyayan Joshi silently crept away from the whole scene with a smiling face. He was beyond happy and he wanted to express his gratitude towards his lady, Ms. Anvesha Chatterjee for the whole plan.

Walking towards his car, he planned to drive towards his restaurant. Finally all his worries were taken care of and he was back to his happy, carefree self. Glancing at his watch, he realized Anvesha was perhaps, busy in her shoot and would be free in two hours. So he decided to surprise her but little did he know that his intelligent girlfriend was ready to give him another shock.

Calling his manager, Praveen, Adhyayan instructed him to manage everything in his absence as he made up his mind to drive to Anvesha’s office. In the way, he stopped twice on the way. Once to purchase a bouquet of red roses for his girlfriend and the second time, to buy a collection of classical instrumental music for her. Once Anvesha had told him about her love for the classical flute instrumental music and hence, he knew she would love the present.

Driving straight for one and half hour due to heavy traffic, Adhyayan finally covered the short distance of twelve kilometers. He let out an exasperated sigh as he waited for Anvesha in the coffee shop outside her office.

After half an hour of seamlessly long wait and a cup of Mocha with freshly baked cookies, Adhyayan called Anvesha who picked up the call and immediately asked, “Is everything fine?”

“Can we meet in the coffee shop in front of your office right now”, Adhyayan said trying hard to maintain the suspense. He knew she must have not met Nikhil yet, due to her interview session.

“Are you there?” Anvesha asked chuckling realizing that her plan was indeed successful. “I am just coming, wait”, she muttered under her breath as she rushed out of the office. She was anyway, leaving for her home after her long working hours.

As soon as the tired Anvesha entered the coffee shop, Adhyayan smiled and waved at her enthusiastically. He admired her professionalism. She was wearing a mauve colored shirt and black trousers with her curly hair tied in a ponytail. She had her tote in her left hand and a blazer in her right hand. Adhyayan involuntarily smiled as he realized the tired Anvesha was looking cuter than the bubbly one.
