“So, reached?”, sleepy Adhyayan asked his girlfriend in the morning.

“Yeah, just reached in the room right now”, tired Anvesha answered.

“Take rest, I will get back to you later”, Adhyayan reverted back lightly kissing on the phone as he got up to do his morning chores.

Anvesha smiled as she mumbled a ‘bye’ controlling the fluttering of her fast-paced heart and she disconnected the phone.

Anvesha had flown to Hyderabad for a Symposium about the Ethics of Journalism on National Press Day which was to be attended by renowned journalists working with the eminent news agencies worldwide.

It had been two months, she went to Alwar with Adhyayan and since then, the love between the lovebirds had blossomed. From soft kisses on the phone to loving dates on the weekends, both Adhyayan and Anvesha cherished each other’s company waiting to see where the journey of their lives took them.

It was six in the morning and the tired Anvesha had slumped on the comfy bed of the hotel room after a hectic journey. She hated flights due to the flying sickness she had but owing to her busy schedule, she could not afford the long train journey from Delhi to Hyderabad.

Letting out an exasperated sigh, she set an alarm for nine in the morning and stretched her body catching some sleep for three hours.

Running late for her day, Anvesha got up at nine and freshened herself. Taking a warm, relaxing bath, she got ready into a wine red business suit. Tying her hair in a bun, she finished her look with plum-shade lipstick as she talked to her mother.

Humming her favorite tune, Anvesha relished upon the breakfast she had ordered at the hotel oblivious to what the day had in store for her.

Heading towards the conference hall in the five star hotel, Anvesha bumped into a person whom she never wanted to see in her life. The thirty year old man who was wearing a crisp blue colored business suit smirked looking at her as she closed her icy blue eyes in disgust.

“Hey, honey! You are looking ravishing”, the man said inhaling her sweet fragrance as he caught her in his arms.

Pushing him away in disgust, Anvesha said, “Excuse me, Mr. Khorana”, as she moved towards the elevator. Her body stiffened as the two year old painful memories began to come in her mind. Fidgeting, she called Reyansh, her colleague who was accompanying her.

“”Reyansh, please…. meet me… soon”, she said stammering as she tried to control her tears.

“Ma’am, are you fine? Where are you? I am just coming”, perplexed Reyansh said to his senior whom he had never seen so nervous. He was inside the conference hall waiting for Anvesha.

“I am outside the hall”, Anvesha said composing herself. Immediately Reyansh came out of the conference hall and accompanied her. Little did Reyansh know, he was offering the much needed moral support to Anvesha at the moment.

Soon the conference began with the introductory lecture by the chief guest, the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Mr. V.K Singh who had been a pioneer in checking the dissemination of news in the current digital era ethically. He was Anvesha’s role model and she admired him a lot. However, today she was not at all excited in his speech because of the events of that unfateful day.

On the other hand, Mr. Vipin Khorana was shamelessly glaring at Anvesha remembering the insult she did. He closed his eyes smirking all alone as he decided to take revenge from his ‘honey’ today.

After the continuous lectures, Anvesha’s mood was lifted a bit as she tried to concentrate on her work. She mentally explained herself that it was just a matter of a day. She was reverting back to Delhi the next day and she could definitely handle everything.

As the crowd dispersed for the lunch, Anvesha too, moved with Reyansh. In the company all the other people from her profession gathered for the event, Anvesha felt a bit relaxed.

Taking a deep breath, she regained her lost confidence as she served herself the lunch. The meal was tasty but she had lost appetite. As everyone near her talked and laughed, she too, joined the conversation.

Soon the pleasant discourse was disrupted by the arrival of Mr. Vipin Khorana, the senior journalist and executive editor of a leading news agency. He was giving his valuable inputs to the conversation as Anvesha was feeling uncomfortable under his scrutinizing gaze. She excused herself and moved towards the restroom.

Washing her face continuously, the terrified Anvesha tried to stop her tears which knew no bounds. Taking a deep breath, she relaxed and recollected the broken pieces of her soul, thereby, moving out of the restroom only to see Vipin smirking at her.

“Hey! Honey, why are you avoiding me?”, Vipin said shamelessly chuckling towards her blocking her way in the alley outside the restroom. The conference was about to begin and hence, there was no one for her help nearby.

“”Mr. Khorana, I have a name and that’s Anvesha. Now let me go.” Anvesha said as she glared with her icy blue eyes piercing the soul of unfazed Vipin.

“How can I let you go after all that?”, Vipin said as he tried to grip her tender hands.

Anvesha screamed at the top of her voice, “Go away, you filthy idiot!”, trying to gain attention of any staff if anyone was present, nearby.

Vipin, on the other hand, was irritated beyond anything. He tried to manhandle Anvesha gripping her shoulders thereby, earning an unexpected reaction.

Anvesha rose her hand with all her might and within fraction of seconds, her strong, yet tender palm left a red imprint on Vipin’s right cheek. He was taken aback for once. Before he could retaliate any further, Anvesha kicked him in between his legs making him lose his balance.

Vipin staggered and stumbled falling on the floor dumbfounded at the turn of events while Anvesha ran away without even looking back trying to control her tears. Reaching the conference hall, she drank water as she took her seat.

“Is everything fine, ma’am?” Reyansh asked out of concern looking at the pale face of otherwise cheerful Anvesha. He had realized his senior colleague was missing some charm and perhaps, was disturbed but he chose to avoid asking anything because simply it was not his place to question.

“Just a headache”, Anvesha said nodding as she returned a smile to her colleague. The second half of the lectures passed soon as the eminent experts shared their knowledge about a plethora of subjects from Cyber Law to the Challenge of Fake News. The symposium soon ended on a good note.

The one day symposium was followed by a dinner. Anvesha dreaded another confrontation with Vipin as she did not want to relive any past memories. She asked Reyansh to accompany to her room. Reyansh was suspicious all the while as he had realized Anvesha was trying to avoid certain someone but for the moment, he chose to just help her by ensuring she is safe in her room.

Slumping on her bed, Anvesha slept reliving the painful memories with Vipin as she cried over her foolishness for trusting him once in her life. Her phone kept on ringing and without even seeing who was calling, Anvesha switched her phone off and cried her heart out without even knowing when sleep engulfed her.
