The week after returning from Dehradun had been really hectic for Anvesha. It was time for appraisals in her organization and she was expecting a promotion. She was craving to meet Adhyayan, her delectable boyfriend since her return but her work schedule did not allow her.

Like always Adhyayan had been supportive to her. Their small texts were converted into late night romantic talks but still the confrontation was pending. They both had decided to have the most awaited conversation over the weekend.

With Eid on Monday, it was a holiday for Anvesha. She was excited to meet Adhyayan and clarify her doubts with him.

Anvesha was busy editing the interview of Mr. Hariprakash Joshi with her executive editor and other team members when the office boy entered in her cubicle and asked her to meet the executive director, Mr. A. K Rao, while everyone gave her a knowing smile.

Adhyayan, on the other hand, was busy in his restaurant. He boosted the morale of his employees who were organizing the birthday party for one of their clients. Adhyayan himself ensured that all the events held at any of his restaurant chains were culminated immaculately under his supervision.

Sitting in his cabin, he scoffed as he realized it was holiday on Monday. Since it was a long weekend, he knew he shall be meeting Anvesha. He smiled as he wondered she was really patient with him and was not pestering to reveal everything like a clingy girl but it was high time all her doubts deserved to be clear. He wanted to open up to her but at the right place. Precisely, he was in dire need of a break, he thought.

With a smile on his face, he booked two rooms at the Green Pine Resort enthusiastically. The plan was simple. He would ask Anvesha if she could accompany him over the trip and if she would agree, he would visit the amazing destination he had in his mind or else, he would simply cancel the bookings. He scratched the back of his neck as he stretched himself. He was happy and contended after a long time.

Once done with the editing of the video that was to be aired on the TV the next day, Anvesha apprehensively walked towards the cabin of her immediate boss. She was expecting a promotion but fear and anxiety was visibly evident on her face. Nervously, she knocked on the door of her boss Mr. A. K Rao as her heart was thumping loudly.

“Come in”, the handsome old man said as he took a sip of his black coffee. With his snow-white hair and round spectacles, he looked a strict boss but in reality, he was indeed, one of the best seniors anyone could expect.

As soon as Anvesha entered the office of Mr. A. K Rao, the executive director of the reputed media house, she stopped in her tracks when she heard, “Well! Ms. Chatterjee, after the ongoing segment of your show, we have decided ‘Real Heroes’ shall go off air”.

Anvesha was taken aback. She suddenly felt dizzy and broken. She wondered she was expecting a promotion and herein, she was being sacked from her dream job for which she was slogging day and night, travelling to and fro cities and giving her cent percent. A lump began forming in her throat and it was hard for her to control her tears but she chose to say strong. Taking a deep breath, she mumbled an ‘okay’ as she did not know what to speak.

“Anvesha, please sit down”, the old man said smiling at her and she eyed him suspiciously.

As she took her seat, the old man said smilingly, “Ms. Chatterjee, I have a good news for you. We want you to conduct the debate on our prime time debate show from Monday to Friday.”

Anvesha still could not comprehend whatever her boss said as she was saddened about losing her show. Her trance of thoughts were broken when she heard the old man chuckle. She glared at him for once.

Mr. A. K Rao tried hard to suppress his laugh looking at the sad Anvesha as he said, “Ma’am, we have decided to promote you as the executive editor. For obvious reasons, you will be conducting the prime time TV show at the peak hours and your show has to go off air”, and a smile crept on her face.

Whining like a school kid, she said, “Why do you have to create suspense in everything, sir?” as she realized she was promoted. Her hard work had paid off and she was beyond happy.

“I like it when you give strange expressions, Ms. Chatterjee”, Mr. A. K Rao said and they shared a good laugh. Anvesha had been waiting for this promotion since long and her happiness knew no bounds.

Coming out of her boss’s cabin, she rushed back to share the good news with her friends. It was lunch hour, when everyone was assembled in the cafeteria and as per the tradition in their office, Mr. A. K Rao announced the people who were promoted this year and Anvesha’s name was one of them.

Her colleagues congratulated her on her success and her friends demanded a celebration. After the lunch, Anvesha called Adhyayan to share the happy news but little did she know that Adhyayan too had a news to share.

Adhyayan, who was engrossed in preparing a new dish was irritated when his phone rang. Reading the caller ID, he took a deep breath and wondered why Anvesha was calling him while being at work.

Receiving the call, he fixed his phone between his right ear and shoulder, as he continued stirring the gravy while he spoke, “Hey”.

“Well! I have a good news to share. I am promoted as the executive editor in my organization.” Anvesha told him happily. She had often told him that she was waiting for this promotion and hence, Adhyayan was pleased to know about her success.

“Congratulations!” he said. While adding the spices in the wok, he continued, “It deserves a celebration, then”.

Anvesha mumbled a ‘yes’ gleefully and told him that she was going out with her friends on Friday night. She asked Adhyayan to join but he denied because he had planned the weekend with her and hence, he had to instruct his employees strictly about everything for the weekend on Friday night.

“Umm… Anvesha, are you free over the weekend?” Adhyayan questioned her and she answered in affirmation.

Adhyayan smiled gleefully as he added the mushrooms in the gravy and said, “Well! I was planning for an escapade. Are you willing to join me at Lansdowne over this long weekend?”

Anvesha chuckled as she said, “Well! I am waiting to hear your side of story in Lansdowne, then!”

They shared a good laugh and disconnected the call.

Anvesha shared her joy with her parents and brother who were really happy to see their little girl climbing the ladder of success.
