“Breakfast is ready and I am leaving”, Adhyayan shouted at his sister, Parisa who was sleeping in her room. After passing out from school, three years ago, Parisa had shifted to Delhi with her brother to pursue her bachelor degree in Physics from University of Delhi. Being a meritorious student, it was easy for Parisa to grab a seat. Her plan was simple. After her graduation, she had planned to apply at Indian Air Force. She wanted to be an IAF pilot and she was striving hard to clear the series of examinations that would enable her to fulfill her dreams.

Adhyayan, on the other hand, had woken up, cooked the breakfast but he did not feel like eating. He was pissed off with his life terribly especially since last six months of his life.

Parisa heard her brother howling from the kitchen and she sprang up from the bed. Due to temper of her brother, she was getting afraid of him day by day. She knew her brother had issues in his life and she wished for things to get normal because she could not do anything. Coming out of her room, she sighed as she noticed Adhyayan was about to leave the house.

“Bhaiya, please eat something”, Parisa said timidly. Adhyayan mumbled a ‘no’ but stopped in his tracks. Parisa pestered him again and again till he agreed for the breakfast. She served him and sat beside him to make sure he eats. She had her final exams from next week and hence, it was not needed to go to the college.

Adhyayan did not speak anything and finished the porridge Parisa had served him. He did not feel like talking since last six months. He was about to leave when his phone rang and he sighed.

“Who is it?” Parisa asked him and he answered in monosyllables, “Mummy”.

Parisa gestured him to receive the phone and he did what was desired from him. “Congratulations, you have been a puppet for everyone, Adhyayan”, his inner conscience mocked him while he tried hard to control his anger.

Lakshmi and Hariprakash Joshi, the elderly couple stayed alone in their house with Samar who was a part of family over the years. Charlie, their pet dog was not anymore and they surely missed him. They were happy as their kids would drop by on the weekends and spend time with them.

Adhyayan had insisted them to shift in Delhi but they were happy in their lovely abode in the lap of nature.
Lakshmi and Hariprakash had just one worry in their lives. Their elder son was not married yet and because of adamant Adhyayan they were helpless as they could not do anything except emotionally blackmailing him which never worked. Early in the morning, they called him again like every other day with hope in their eyes as they knew Adhyayan was anything but happy.

Adhyayan talked to his mother and dreaded what was coming next.

“When are you getting married, Adhyayan?” his mother questioned him again. He was tired of avoiding this question everyday but Lakshmi, like an ideal mother kept on asking him the same thing daily.

“I am not getting married ever”, Adhyayan screamed over the phone and Parisa flinched in terror. She was used to seeing her brother getting angrier beyond limits every day.

Lakshmi, on the other hand, pitied her son and wondered why he was so accommodating for everything at the first place. She took a deep breath and said calculatedly, “Adhyayan, Hari wants to talk to her and arrive at a final decision”, as she clearly knew her words would agitate her son more.

“Mummy, please give her time”, Adhyayan said helplessly as he let out a defeated sigh. He wondered why his fiancée was not ready to get married to him.

On the other side of the phone call in Dehradun, Mr. Hariprakash Joshi snatched the phone from his wife and said, “Adhyayan, it is high time. You will be turning thirty-one next month and we want you to get married. I am talking to her parents.”

Having said this Mr. Joshi disconnected the phone leaving Adhyayan appalled. He closed his eyes and mumbled, “Fine, do whatever you want”.

Shrugging his shoulders, Adhyayan got up, picked up his car keys and dashed out of the house while Parisa kept wondering what went wrong in the lives of happy couple who were crazy on the day of their engagement.

Adhyayan had grown impeccably on his professional front. Love=Food was not just an eatery but a chain of restaurants by now. He was one of the most sought-after celebrity chefs of the nation and an arrogant one too. He had a plethora of employees who dreaded him because of his anger. He was completely drowned in his work building up his career after all, he was lingering between an engagement and marriage in his personal life.

Anvesha, on the other hand, was a reputed journalist. Working as an Executive Director with 100TV, she was an inspiration to many young journalists out there who strived hard to reach at her place. She had recently turned twenty nine and she was enjoying her own bubble of happiness. An adorable fiancé and an impeccable career were the only things she desired for.

She was driving fast to reach her workplace as she was already late when her mother called. These days, she was getting irritated with her parents, her brother and her sister-in-law as everyone pestered her to get married. She smiled wondering Adhyayan was indeed, an understanding man who never bugged her to get married.

A smile crept on her face as she parked her car at the parking lot of her media-house. She reminisced her conversation with Adhyayan six months ago when he had asked her about getting married.

She had told him what she felt. She was indeed, happy with Adhyayan but somewhere, she was not ready for marriage. She did not know the reason of her denial but she could simply not say a ‘yes’. She knew she was being unrealistic but she could not help it. She surely wanted to get married to him but not at the moment. She could not explain her reasons to her parents but she was indeed, happy that Adhyayan never demanded reasons from her. Little did she know that Adhyayan was wanted to get married to her since the day they got engaged.

Good morning, love 😘

Anvesha sent a morning text to Adhyayan and engrossed herself in work. Over six months, she knew her fiancé was too busy with his work and hence, their talks, messages and dates were reduced. Instead of pestering her fiancé to spend time with her like a clingy girlfriend which she never was, Anvesha had chosen to give him space and unknowingly, she was getting drifted away from him.

Debraj Chatterjee, a retired professor now lived in Darjeeling in his sweet abode. In these three years, the Chatterjees had two additions in their family, namely, Hruday’s wife Anamika, the perfect daughter-in-law of the family and the granddaughter of the house, seven months old Vidhi, who was apple of their eyes.

Debraj and Madhu, the elderly couple was happy for their son but worried for their daughter who was not ready to get married. The old parents had tried everything from reprimanding her to persuading her affectionately but Anvesha had been adamant.

They had even tried to have a talk with Adhyayan to persuade her for marriage but Adhyayan, being a lovesick fellow had always said, “Marriage can surely wait. We will marry when she would agree herself.”

Debraj and Madhu were playing with their little granddaughter after their son and daughter-in-law had gone for work when Debraj’s phone rang.

Once the conversation between Debraj Chatterjee and Hariprakash Joshi ended, both the elderly couples knew what they had to do to bring back happiness in life of Adhyayan.
