-AYANDISWA BESS
It's been a week since Roland proposed, my parents were not the happiest about the news but it was not their life nor was it up to them. Mom gave me a mouthful lecture about marriage and that I was too young and not ready. Gosh she done said a lot but she and I are good, not that she’s accepted it but she’s coming to terms with it.
“She’s pretty. Who is she?”
I ask walking around the couch, Roland was looking at a picture of some girl
“My sister’s child. After she died they placed her into foster care and I have no idea where she is now”
He says, I place my hand on his knee
“I’ve searched in every database possible and even went as far as looking under those that have been recorded dead and still nothing. It's like she never existed”
He says sounding distraught
“I’m sorry”
It's all I can say to him because I have no idea what more to say
“Thank you for agreeing to marry me”
He says placing his hand over mine, I smile and look at him
“Thank you for asking me. Are you sure this is what you really want?”
I ask him and he nods without any doubt on his face
“Is it what you want?”
I nod
“It's what I’ve always wanted but my parents are not so happy about it. Dad is ok I guess but mom has been a bit cold ever since I told her, she feels like I don’t know you enough to marry you”
He tenses
“She’s your mother and she knows best”
He says calmly
“Does she? Do you think I don’t know you enough?”
I ask him and he shrugs
“You know enough”
He says, I raise an eyebrow
“I have a dark past and you know about it but you still loved me regardless, at this point nothing anyone ever told you about me should surprise you. I’m an open book to you”
He says and I smile
“My favourite book too”
I say and he turns to kiss me, we share a nice long kiss until we are disturbed by Mercy’s phone call. After the call Roland laughs
“Remind me to never cheat on you”
I chuckle
“Yanga is a dick for cheating on her after everything mom has been through with dad. He should know better and Mercy deserves better, she shouldn’t be crying over his lying cheating ass”
He chuckles
“At some point you thought I was cheating on you”
He reminds me tapping my nose
“Your actions told me you were cheating and you disappearing when I needed you the most didn’t help the situation”
I say and he shrugs
“I was sent on a wild goose hunt and reached a dead end”
He says dismissively
“you could have atleast told me instead of having me think that you were avoiding me. It didn’t feel nice”

-MACELLA BROWN
I didn’t plan out for things to go this way but I needed him to know that I know, I needed both of them to know that I know about the two of them.
“Macella I can explain”
He says walking over to me
“Don’t bother. Have a nice life”
I say and then walk past both of them and run down the stairs, I hear Yanga call out to me but I’m too angry and hurt to pay any mind to him. in the midst of my anger I slip on one of the stairs and roll down the remaining flight of stairs hurting myself in the process.
“Mercy are you ok?”
Yanga asks when he finally reaches me at the bottom of the stairs
“Stay the fuck away from me”
I say and try to get up but my body hurts like hell!
“Macella let me take you to the hospital please”
He offers trying to help me up but I smack his hands away from me
“Don’t you fucking touch me. Stay away from me! I never want to see you again, not after what you did. I hate you Yanga Bess!”
I yell at him with tears streaming down my cheeks, he lets out a sigh
“I understand you are mad at me as you should, you have every right to be mad at me but please let me help you”
He says and picks me up then places me in the back of the car and gets in the drivers seat and drives off. We get to the hospital and he picks me up and rushes me inside then he explains what happened. They rush me into the ER and check if I’ve broken anything and I am fortunate to not have broken anything
“You were lucky Miss Brown”
The doctor says and I nod
“are you sure you ok? No dizziness?”
He asks
“Just a splitting headache, painful ribs”
I tell him and he nods
“I will have a nurse give you something for the pain, either than that I have no reason to keep you here”
He says and I nod
“Thank you doc”
I say
“Should I call in your boyfriend? He was pretty worried about you”
I shake my head
“he’s the last person I want to see right now”
I tell him and he chuckles
“Couples fight all the time, he brought you here didn’t he?”
I nod
“Because it's his fault I even landed in here in the first place”
I nods
“I am sorry”
He says and I nod
“I’ll send in that nurse”
He says and then walks out. After a few minutes Yanga walks in as I just got off the bed, I’d be lying if I said I was not still in pain over my fall.
“Mercy”
He starts off, I look up at him
“I am so sorry”
He says looking down in embarrassment
“I don’t know what got over me or why I even cheated on you, I promise to make things right”
He says and I chuckle dryly
“There's nothing to make right Yanga, I will never forgive you for this. I never knew you were an abuser too”
I say and he sighs
“That was a mistake”
He says defensively
“It always starts with a mistake but that’s your problem to deal with. Please leave”
I tell him and just then a nurse walks in, he exhales and then turns on his heels and walks out
“I was told to bring you something for the pain”
I nod, after she gives me an injection and some pills with a prescription letter I call Aya on my way out of the hospital room
“That was quick”
She says and I chuckle but I hurt myself in the process
“I am in hospital”
I tell her
“What do you mean? What happened?”
she asks with so much concern
“I was stupid. When I got to her place his car was parked outside and I couldn’t help myself, I think he was hiding in the room when I was there because I went to the bathroom to fix myself and try calm myself down, when I walked out they were standing in the kitchen arguing and so yeah, I walked out or more like ran out and slipped on the stairs and tumbled all the way down”
She laughs
“I’m sorry for laughing but that’s was stupid “
