6 MONTHS LATER
-YANGA BESS
“Marriage is not child’s play. You either in it for the long run or you not. You and I haven’t been the best of friends but you are my son and I love you despite everything that’s happened between us. I want you to be happy and me wanting you to be happy means I want you to be certain that this is what you really want to do.”
I nod
“Macella has been a part of our family for years now, she is not some girl you introduced to us a few months ago but she’s been a daughter to Yaya and I, a sister to your siblings. I love her as a daughter, I don’t want you to hurt her again Yanga”
He says and nod
“I won't. I learnt from my mistakes and I’ll never repeat them again. I know I’ve disappointed you a lot in the past few years but I’m promise you dad I am done playing games and I am done fooling around. I love Macella and I want to make her my wife today”
I say and he nods
“I truly hope so. You’ve proven that you’ve grown and that’s the first step, your growth in the last few months doesn’t go unnoticed and unappreciated. I am proud of the man you’ve worked on becoming, I am glad you learnt a thing or two from your siblings”
He says, how I have longed to hear him say that. The fallout I had with my father a year ago did come between us and it affected our relationship gravely. I am grateful that we are here today because it took a lot of work from both of us to get to this point. I realized that the way I was, was going to cost me everyone I love. Obviously it wasn’t overnight but I am glad we are here today. He fixes my tie and I smile
“thank you for being the amazing father you have been to me. I haven’t been the best son over the years but thank you dad. Thank you for forgiving me and always giving me a chance to redeem myself”
I say and he smile and steps away from me
“There's no dumpster for children”
He jokes and we both laugh, we are disturbed by a knock on the door.
“Come in”
I call out and the door opens, Kyle and Miso walk in wearing their suits
“You look proper. I never imagined I would live to see the day”
Miso says and we all laugh
“You and me both kid”
Kyle adds and we all laugh
“Wow guys, thanks for the vote of confidence”
I say and they all laugh
“You can't blame us kid, I mean”
Dad says and I roll my eyes, just then someone knocks on the door
“Come in”
Kyle calls out and mom walks in all dressed up looking beautiful as always. I smile and so does she
“Oh my baby”
She says and hugs me tightly
“Yeah Yaya, ignore the rest of us please”
Dad says as mom breaks the hug, she shoves him lightly
“Shut up Bess. Honey you look amazing”
She says turning to me. She takes a deep breath and lets it out
“Argh I never imagined I’d see this day”
Mom says and we all laugh
“See, we not the only ones”
Miso says and I roll my eyes, she pulls my ear
“If you dare mess it up again I am disowning you!”
Mom says
“Ouch mom”
I say and she lets go of the ear while everyone else laughs
“That time dad said there's no dumpster for children”
I say and she shrugs
“You’ll be the first one. You can't marry someone if you only going to play them in the long run. Macella is my daughter as much as you are my son but if you mess up I won't think twice to take sides. You better be sure this is what you want!”
I nod
“Yes mom, dad has already given me the talk, but thank you Yaya. I won't disappoint”

-MACELLA BROWN
I take a deep breath looking at myself in the mirror while Aya stuffs her face with fries, her husband had them delivered. Their baby is a month old and she still gets these cravings of hers
“Relax, your dress looks amazing and so do you”
She says and I chuckle
“I don’t know. I’m nervous”
I admit
“It's normal. Yanga knows what's at stake if he messes up after this, I don’t think he would ever risk your relationship again. He is all things but once he makes a mistake he learns from it”
Aya assures me, I take a deep breath as I admire myself one last time
“Ok, I think I’m ready”
I say turning to her, she stands up
“Let me call dad”
She says searching for her phone and she finds it then she dials dad’s number only for it to ring outside my door. She walks to open the door and he walks in and he smiles
“My beautiful daughters”
He says and we both smile
“Obviously Mercy is more beautiful”
Aya frowns and we all laugh
“It's my day, let me have this”
I protest and they both laugh, dad hugs me tightly and then he breaks the hug
“Are you ready to do this?”
He asks and I nod
“I’m ready”
We leave the room and then get in the car that leads to hall. Unlike the others I wanted an indoor wedding and an outside reception which will be held in our backyard. Dad walks me over to Yanga and then he hands me over to him and before we know it we have to say our vows, I repeat after the pastor and then he goes
“I know we were agreed that we would say the bible vows but I can't. I’d never forgive myself if I didn’t say what was in my heart”
He says and I frown confused
“Macella Brown, the day we met you and I didn’t quiet see eye to eye”
I chuckle
“But things happened and here we are today, I have messed up but you gave me a second chance. I promised I would use it wisely hence we are standing here today, the fact that you said yes when I popped the question says a lot. Thank you for giving me a second chance to love you again, to treat you better, to be the man that you deserve, to be the kind of man you look at from across the room and smile proudly that I am yours and only yours. I love you so Macella”
He takes a deep breath, I smile
“I promise to continue to being the man that you know and love, I promise to never hurt you, I promise to never disappoint you, I promise to always have your back and I promise to be the man you will always be proud to call your husband until death do us apart”
