•--*6 YEARS AGO * •--

y/n realizes, the air is being sucked out of her lungs, her legs trembling, and her head fuzzy with the lack of oxygen. She questions herself how she ended up from moving into a new city to walking up the stairs of a seven-story building, her legs giving out, almost passing out when her supposed-to-be classroom is finally in her sight.

She quickly gets her crumpled uniform in shape and walks into the room. Unfamiliar, students are running around the classroom, chattering among themselves, completely unaware of the new arrival.

y/n pays it no mind, except that she suddenly misses her past school, the usual faces she used to see around, and especially her two best friends who always lightened up in her presence.

She finds an empty seat beside the window and plops down with her bag, not minding the deafening chatter around the room. Noisy. The warm sunlight invades the room, sending heat through her skin. Her eyes begin to feel heavy, thinking back to how she barely got any sleep the night before.

Moving to a new place, a new city, a new school is a lot to take in. The room where she and her brother have to reside is too strange for her liking. There is no warmth or the touch of home in it. Thinking back to how well she lived until now, she realizes she had taken it all for granted. Suddenly, her family had to fit into this unfamiliar place, leaving everything behind. She heaves a long sigh from the repetitive thoughts and lets her head drop down to the desk.

She is jolted awake from her train of thoughts when someone kicks her desk, "What-" her head shoots up to see the culprit, but she is only glared back down by a group of girls. They are all dolled up with makeup and long nails, is this even allowed...?

Even if she doesn't want to, she notices how they've all loosened their uniforms in an inappropriate way, exposing their collarbones and knees, making them stand out from the other female students.

But she is robbed of thinking further when one of the girls slaps the back of her head, "Look down, you bitch!" a wave of laughter comes from the other girls. 'What the hell is going on...' but again, things take a quick turn when someone sits down across from her, tilting her head up, "Aren't you the new girl? Look how pretty you are."

"What do you want?" y/n speaks with a bite before she can think twice. But it only sends amusement to the other girl, "Feisty. Silly me, I haven't introduced myself, have I? I'm Ezra. We're gonna be really good friends from now on." A really odd aura is lingering around Ezra, as if she doesn't mean a single word yet can spit it out so effortlessly, "I'll get down to business then. We're in need of a new girl to clean the room for us, the last one kinda dropped out, and you, pretty girl," her long nails trail to y/n's jaw, "are lucky to get this job."

"I don't want to." A beat of silence falls before another roll of laughter erupts around her. "Be grateful you even got a job, most don't even get it in six to five months," the short girl behind her shouts. Y/n stares down at them, wondering why they are speaking so highly of getting a cleaning job and what happens if they don't really get it. "Why do I have to do that?" her brows furrow, sending an empty glare to the intruder of her peace.

The girls seem to tense around her.

She can even hear some of the students getting quiet to eavesdrop better on their conversation, completely in the center of attention now. Ezra is the only one with a neutral expression, still keeping up her plastic smile and reading y/n like an open book, "Because you're asked to."

"Why do I have to take orders from you? Who are you, and why are you cornering me to do the cleaning for you? What if I don't do it!" clearly irritated to her core, y/n pushes away the lingering hand on her face. A short gasp escapes from the students around her.
