Unfortunate times dont happen to come with any warning. They just arrive and take everything away like a storm. A storm so strong it leaves nothing but horrible memories with dreadful scars.

Thats what y/n calls the very moment playing before her, a storm upon her life.

As soon as she walks into her house, she's met with an extra set of shoes, 'guests?'  thats weird because nobody knows them around here. An unfamiliar voice plays on the living room, following with her mom and dad's. They seem to be too engaged in a serious conversation to even hear her enter. The more she walks ahead the clearer their words get "-to complete the divorce. Once the case goes to trial, it'll take both of you to-"

The word catches her attention, drilling itself to her mind. Before she can even realise, its out of her mouth louder than she intends, "Divorce?!?"

Her mom and dad quickly turns her way. They look frightened, like some prey caught in trap. Her dad looks away, unable to meet her eyes with the fierce guilt. Then there's her mother, making her way to her, "Sweety, when did you get here?-"

"Mom, what's going on? Dad? You're getting a divorce?" y/n shouts, unmindful to the guest present with them. Her mom does a faint bow before guidung her to an inner room, "Excuse us."

Only when they were in a confined room, did y/n's mom decide to speak again, "How can you behave such way infront of a guest-"

"Mom, what were you guys talking about? Divorce? You and dad? Why?!?!" her mom remains silence, probably deciding whats the right words to say. But it does nothing to calm y/n down. As much as she's in denial, she imagines her family breaking down and its driving her to insanity "What about Jacob? What about me?"

But her continuous questions get interrupted when her mother sends a glare her way, "That's no way to talk to your mom." y/n stares in disbelief, her fist tightening. Fine, she wants me calm, I'll be calm Then she drags her gaze away, painfully whispering the next words, "Why wasnt I aware of this?"

"We were just about to tell you."

"Does Jacob know?" her mom again keeps silent to the question, which more or less answers itself, "He knew?!? All of you knew but didnt bother to tell me. You decided all of these on your own-"

"Jacob is a minor. He had to choose his own guardian. While you're a legal adult now, you can handle things on your own-" tears begin to well up in her eyes, her legs giving up on her, "why...? Who do you have to do this...?" her mom seems to soften up a bit. She heaves a sigh then, calming her voice, "Your dad and I made this decision. It's our life and I hope you respect that."

"What about my life...How can you break everything apart like this...?" her mom pulls her into a hug, patting down her hair in comfort "Jacob has a long future ahead. He chose me to take care of him and I don’t want to make him regret it. You dad has enough on him to get you through college."

"Cant you just take me too...?" y/n lifts her head to look at her mom, pleading with her eyes. Because words are failling her.Any words that might come out from her mouth will just have her begging. No matter how much her parents fight, the whole idea of a divorce never crossed her mind. She thought they're just going through a rough time and they'll pass it, surely.

But then the warmth leaves her, "Your dad, he's a ruined man now. He cant even feed himself let alone a family. Im protecting both of you with this decision. But at the end of the day, he has his rights on you too."
