He had lost the opportunity the moment he spoke.

Yoonseul wasn't happy with his performance either. And that was what hurt her the most because she was right. When they talked about helping Jimin, she was not referring to this, but to be by his side for emotional support. But Jungkook hadn't been able to hold out and did the right thing. But for whom?

Jimin probably considered him someone who cannot be trusted, Yoonseul was disappointed and pissed off that he had done the opposite of what they had planned, and as icing on the cake, he had ruined a relationship between two soul mates. They might not have ended up together after a while, they might just have stayed as friends, but still, he felt like he had taken away the possibility of something growing between them.

Even in his emotional state of guilt and misery, he had the moral sense to text his mother to say that he would not go straight home because he had to go somewhere else first. He needed to disconnect from the world, organize his thoughts.

And that's how he got to the store where it all started, four years ago. His presence there was so common by now that none of the employees were surprised, they didn't even ask him if he needed anything; they greeted him with warm smiles and went about their business.

Jungkook went straight to the back of the store and opened the door that led to that kind of study/break room. Every time he walked in there, it was as if he went back in time, or rather, as if it had stopped only in that room.

He had spent countless afternoons with his nose stuck in the books while he waited for Hana to finish her shift and teach him something new. Most of the books talked about gems and their potential, others about the different versions of the creation of the tree of destiny, and a few talked about the change in society over time after including gems.

With a sigh, Jungkook walked over to the desk where the computer was, putting the backpack aside and flopping into the chair. On one side were several newspapers and magazine articles, arranged, that talked about the tree of destiny, even though they were articles from a few years ago. Some parts were highlighted, and some pages had margins written in what he easily recognized as Hana's handwriting.

On the outskirts of the city where there is more countryside and less asphalt, is the original enclave of the tree of destiny. Her offspring were spread out at different points to increase their reach and ensure that each person found their soul mate.

One of the pages spoke of an event organized by the guides in which all those who had found their counterpart were invited to gather at the foot of the tree. With this, they wanted to give thanks for the gems that had changed their lives, and for this, everyone would put theirs for a short period in their trunk. In this way, they hoped that the tree would also feel the same emotions that they had stored in those gems, that they would be a symbol of gratitude.

The surprising thing is that the article was over 50 years old. Jungkook doubted that this would have been repeated. Otherwise, Hana would have had more items of the same type, or maybe just this one was the most interesting. Either way, the summary had caught his eye, as it was what was highlighted.

After putting everything together on one side, Jungkook got up and took the backpack, slipping it over one shoulder. Then he went to the barrier and went through it with the fluidity that comes from doing it more times than one can remember. On the other side, everything remained the same, unchanging, as if time and circumstances did not affect the room.

Although Jungkook had grown quite large, the tree was still just as imposing. That kind of garden that surrounded him was still just as lush every time he came, the insects that flew over it went on about their business, and what Jungkook thought at first were dragonflies, he would later learn that they were also fairies, they were in the pond flowers.

According to Hana, these fairies, unlike Haneul, did not have the ability or the power to hide their wings and be seen as people. They could only mask their attributes, while maintaining their original size, to look like they were anything else, like a dragonfly, a butterfly, etc.

For them it was not an inconvenience, their only function was to take care of the tree and its environment, doing it as a human would be much more tedious. By nature, they were afraid of humans, so when someone entered the room they transformed. Jungkook had spent so much time here that they already knew what it was like, they knew that he wouldn't hurt them, so they didn't even bother to change their form.

Tranquilly, Jungkook put his backpack on the side of the worktable and went to sit at the foot of the tree, passing by the pond where the fairies were taking a nap on the flowers that floated on its surface.

Normally, he would have fallen asleep by now. The sound of fairies fluttering as they worked lulled him. But since they were resting now, all he heard was silence, and although silence was not bad at all from time to time, it only made him repeat the events of the day over and over, punishing himself.

"I hear you think from here, human."
