It was cold when the night set in. It was the first time she'd ever felt how cold it truly was.
It was empty.
Everything was empty. Her Noona cradled her, sobbed and rocked with back and forth. Yet, she couldn't feel her body heat. Couldn't imagine the last time she felt warm. It was as if a lifetime has passed in the blink of an eye.
She wanted Mia. Mia would make it better. She'd giggle and give her a mysterious look before taking her hand and leading her to another adventure.
Sometimes it'd just be a trip to stealing a bite of dessert before dinner.
Last time, their mother laughed so hard when she found half the brownies missing that she forgot to punish them.Maia and Mia would play a game when they were about to face a punishment. One would cry and blame themselves, while the other would act defensive and protect her. It was usually Maia who was better and bringing forth tears on the spot, and Mia was courageous and righteous in her justice to defend her twin.
It was a moving scene they secretly practiced after the first time they got grounded and had to follow their father outside and help become little workers to his random woodwork projects instead of playing like they wanted. They would sleep together every night, curled around one another like pups do to stay warm. They would sometimes stay awake under the blanket to read stories past their bedtime.
When they played pretend, Mia was the Prince rescuing the Princess Maia from the goblins.
Neither played alone, neither got in trouble alone, as long as they had each other...Now, the space in her chest reserved for Mia's emotions and little whispers, was empty. Her body, along with her parents, was gone too.
Maia could only stare blankly at the place where their house used to be. Where the garden they planted with their mother used to be. Where her sister and parents used to be.She hated him. Hated those red eyes. Hated the world. Hated the pack. Hated herself.
She jolted awake, feeling disoriented as her eyes adjusted to the pitch black around her.
Maia was quick to realize she was in a cage in some sort of cement room. A basement or a prison cell.
Her ankle was shackled with a silver chain, the skin already burned and not healing. Her pain was numbed, the feeling in her chest still empty. She had smelt her so clearly... she wouldn't mistake that scent any sooner than she'd mistake her mate... so why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Maia felt her wolf try and rise to the surface, but with the silver on her leg, she couldn't shift. She felt her stomach twist before she began dry heaving. Nothing came up, but she hadn't eaten since the morning.Where was Mia? Why hadn't she felt the bond in her chest, but smelt her scent so clearly?
Lucien.
He would be furious. Worried. Terrified. Where was he?
Tears filled her eyes before spilling carelessly down her cheeks.
Was she alone again?Your fault
Her subconscious whispered like a venomous snake. Why hadn't she changed? Why couldn't she move on?
She knew in her heart that following that scent was wrong. She knew... yet why? The cell was filled with her sobs. Maia curled up, the reminder of the empty space between her ribs prominent.
She hadn't completed the bond with Lucien. Hadn't fully became one with him. Nothing else could fill the gap.She needed her sister... no she needed her mate.
Why couldn't she be decisive? Mia was gone... the proof was there in her heart like a black hole.Crybaby
"I know"
Her whisper echoed off the walls.Weak
"I know" a crack.
Can't even save yourself
"I know!" Maia roared in fury. She was screaming at no one but herself.
Only the voice in her mind kept her company as she counted the days with how empty her stomach began to match her chest.Micheal and Payten stood back while watching Lucien destroy everything within his reach. The sofa was torn apart. His desk. The chairs. Pictures and walls came down.
He'd already shifted and done the same earlier today.Sasha had contacted him with some hints she'd picked up about the bastard's whereabouts. Only he could've been motivated to take an Alpha's mate.
Northern Washington, up past Alpha Maddox's territory.
The issue was, Maddox, also a bastard, was refusing them entrance on his land to pass through.
Claiming a hint wasn't enough evidence to give them permission to search, and that he was sending out his "best" warriors to look. They would find nothing, not compared with a Lycan's senses.
"Screw him, gather Johnson, Parker, Tanya, Louise, and Ralph. We'll fucking annihilate his pack if he stands in our way" The serious look in Lucien's eyes told them all they needed.
He hadn't lost his sanity yet, but he was close. His rationality was slipping, and it could be dangerous for the pack."Should we alert the WCCP?" Payten was more level headed, concentrating on keeping their agreements with the council.
Lucien paused for merely a second before turning and leaving, only barking out a single response.
"Do what you want"
A storm was left.
