Sam's POV

We stepped out of the elevator into a huge mansion-like entry. I looked up and saw a huge chandelier that lit up the room with many hallways off to the sides and staircases that lead to different floors all covered with white and black marble.

I counted at least 5 floors that I could see from where we stood. People and wolves of all sizes and colors were walking all over the place, looking busy or in a hurry. It was incredible but kinda scary at the same time. I couldn't help but stop and look around as I started to shake a little. This was just too much as a few of the wolves looked over at me but then I saw a group of children all walking together maybe 3 or 4 years old, and two of them were little pups. There was a lady in front leading the group and another in the back of them holding clothes in her arms. For some reason that calmed me a little more.

"Sam," Emmett called getting my attention. I looked over quickly with amazement in my eyes and he smiled at me. "Come this way," he told me as I walked over to him, noticing he was farther away than I liked at this moment. "It's alright, no one is going to touch you here. This is the Blue Moon packhouse," he explained as he started walking but this time I stayed close to his side. "It's been here underground for many, many generations. Everyone who lives here is a pack member and can walk around freely as you can see. Some are more comfortable in wolf form than human," he smiled back at me as he started walking up a set of stairs off to the side.

"So how does no one know a place like this is here? About wolves like you?" I asked, now curious as to how I went for so long without knowing any of this.

"Actually Sam, people do know about us. I was more surprised you didn't know before about us since we lived in my pack's territory but we do cover up most of it and try not to let the humans see us running around as wolves. People fear what is different than them which is why the hunters were first created. So to avoid another full-out war with them once again we try to keep out of trouble and out of the spotlight."

"I guess that would be a good idea," I said as we got to the top of the stairs and I couldn't help but look around this place a little more. Everything was just so amazing but then I stopped and looked at him in question. "Wait, war with them again? What do you mean?"

"I guess if you don't know about us then you don't know about the Dark War or even the witch trials that started it," he said, walking over to a thinner staircase. Two men were standing on the bottom watching me as we walked near but greeted Emmett with a bow. I stood behind Emmett a little closer because they both gave me a weird look. I felt out of place.

"What is a witch trial? Wait so that means there are witches too?"

"Yes. They were the ones who put together our armies and that's how we, the shifters, witches, and help from the vampires, won the Dark War."

I stopped and looked at him in amazement. "Vampires too? You have to tell me more about it," I told him, giving him my full attention.

"I will but first let's get up to the room and I will tell you all about it in the morning after you've showered and rested," he said with a smile and started back up the stairs again.

"What? But that's not fair! You can't just drop a mythical war on me and walk away like it doesn't matter," I argued running up the stairs behind him.

He just laughed until we reached the top of the stairs where he opened the door for us and we stepped into a large room that looked almost like a big waiting room with couches and chairs, a large flat-screen TV, and two women with black hair sitting behind a desk talking on phones.

He waved at them both as one tried to hold the person on the phone and talk to Emmett but he didn't stop to hear it.

"Anyway," he said as we passed a few closed doors. "This is where Viv and her mate Brian, who you've also met earlier, stay. Same with her twin brother Mason, the redheaded one. Both Mason and Brian are my betas and help me with my work. They go most everywhere with me, like the day you took my phone," he smiled at me as he reminded me of that incident. "But they are next in line if I die unless the next alpha is chosen. They're both like brothers to me."
