Easter is so forgettable to me, maybe because the date changes?

Shinichi let out a sigh, melancholy wrapping itself around the sleuth as he sat next to the occupied bed. He'd finally caught Kaitou Kid, the problem was that it hadn't been nearly as satisfying as it should have been. It had been the complete opposite.

Kid- no Kaito had been attacked, cornered, and beaten. By the time that Shinichi had found him and taken down the assailants, Kid had barely been conscious. The sleuth had almost called the police, he'd been planning to, until Kid had spoken. The thief, the one who was both an ally and a rival, Kaitou Kid. Kid had pleaded against him calling for help, it had caused Shinichi to falter. Kid was proud, but back then, the other had sounded so broken, so tired, so young. Kid had been crying and... Shinichi had still owed him one hadn't he? The thief may not have implied it, but the sleuth had grasped onto the excuse.

It had taken a bit of effort, but in the end, Shinichi managed to sneak the injured teen into his house. Undressing the unconscious thief had been horrifying, scars painted themselves all over the other's torso, right beneath the awful bruises that were already starting to bloom and the cuts that were still seeping a concerning amount of blood if left untreated for too long. Seeing Kid unmasked had been a bitter pill to swallow, and he'd swallowed a fair amount in his life. Kaitou Kid was supposed to be untouchable, not damaged as he was.

When Kid had woken up and met his gaze with haunted, broken indigos, Shinichi's inner conflict only grew. Kid had ended up telling him a story, a story that started with a happy and complete family and ended with an evil and greedy organization searching for a magic gem. The criminals would resort to mass murder and infiltration if they had to. It just wasn't happening as often since they'd found a target to kill, maybe even use. Instead of using their own resources, they were apparently content to let Kid do his thing before trying to kill him for the gem.

Kid's tone throughout the whole story had been soft, yet at the same time raw as the other teen revealed the motive behind his actions. Surprisingly, Shinichi had felt as if he were going to cry near the end. It had sounded so similar to what he'd been forced to go through as Conan, except that Kaito really only had one person on his side consistently while Conan had had a fair few. The magician may not have been forced to live in hiding, but the danger was the same and the pain was real. After the story, Kaito had ended up passing out. The combination of his injuries and the obvious mental fatigue had been too much for the other.

Now that he knew the other's motives, and of the dangers he was facing, Shinichi knew that he couldn't turn Kaito in. The magician would end up dead before the week was up, maybe even those close to him as well. With that knowledge weighing on his mind, the sleuth began to think. He needed to figure out a way to somehow help Kaito since he highly doubted that the other would allow him to help with his heists.

Shinichi leaned back in his chair, arms crossed and azure closed as he pondered what to do. Kaito had given him a lot of personal information, and from what he could gather, his moonlight persona was probably bashed a lot. It was actually kinda concerning when he thought about it, where did Kaito go to get away from everything? Apparently Hakuba Saguru had started to hang around his old get away and Nakamori Ginzo's daughter liked to barge into his house like she owned the place. He thought for a long time.

Eventually, when Kaito did wake up once more, the teen felt horrible. He slowly sad up, bruised ribs protesting at the action "Meitantei..." He looked away, ashamed. He should have just kept his mouth shut. Why had he given everything away?

Azure softened at the defeated way the other held himself, it didn't suit the other "Call me Shinichi" He held out a glass of water, a paper straw already plopped inside "If we're going to get along, we may as well use our first names" It was an icebreaker and a show of good intent "I'm going to help you with your demons like you did with my own" Kid had played a vital part in the BO take down.

Kaito warily accepted the glass, holding it instead of drinking it "You just got your life back" His gaze was still averted "I don't want your help"

The sleuth sighed, having expected the answer "I'll just help with cover ups or any alibis you might need" He pursed his lips, suddenly feeling a bit unsure "And I'll offer my house as a safe place for you to go, you can come and go whenever you want" The idea was a bit unsettling, but it felt like the right thing to do. Kaito was a good person "I won't be in any extra danger if we keep our association a secret"

Indigos finally met the sleuth's gaze "Why are you offering this? We both know that you like your personal space" He understood the other offers, it was the safety that confused him.

"I do" Shinichi admitted "But I also understand a bit of what you're going through..." A small frown tugged at his lips "When I was Conan... It was hard to get time to myself... It's the same problem except it's Nakamori-chan and Hakuba for you" He really wasn't good with words "I want you to have someone who understood..." He lowered his gaze "As Conan I would have liked to have someone like that..."

"Oh..." Kaito blinked a few times, not wanting tears to form "You..." He took a small sip through the straw "You really are a meitantei Shinichi" The sleuth truly cared about people, so maybe trying out the offer wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Me: So I wrote a story backwards because of a comment about the cactus...

I really love reading comments ^-^ ... I'm not going to reorder the parts, I think it's fine like this
