"Kaito!"

Kaito jumped, eyes going wide as he heard his mom call his name. She wasn't supposed to be home yet. He'd seen her just a little more than a week ago. The young magician suddenly became nervous, his mom had sounded angry. What if she found Silky? The kitten that he'd picked up a few days ago.

"Kaito"

The boy winced "I'm coming!" He called, praying that Silky was still fast asleep under the living room couch. All of her cat supplies were stored in his room, including Silky's litter box. Kaito hadn't asked his mom if he'd be able to keep her, let alone even inform her about the kitten. When Kaito entered the living room, his hopes were crushed as he spotted the pure black kitten that his mom was holding.

Chikage frowned "I didn't agree to you having a cat Kaito" Especially a young kitten! Her son hadn't even turned 10 yet, he wasn't responsible enough to take care of a kitten.

Kaito put on his best pouting face, desperately hoping that it would work "I can take care of Silky-chan, she's been doing great here" Silky was fun to play with, her energy made it hard for him to just sit around and do nothing. Except for when she was sleeping of course.

Sighing, Chikage shook her head "Kaito sweety, you can't keep her, her fur will get everywhere" The couch already had a decent amount of the kitten's fur on it.

No! He needed Silky "I need her" Kaito replied softly "I'm lonely" He didn't meet his mother's gaze. Chikage was almost never home, leaving without notice all the time. She'd stopped caring for him after his father's death.

Chikage's eyes softened "You don't need a kitten" She smiled "You've got me" She glanced down at the kitten she was holding "I'll be sending her to a shelter, you got her off of the street right?"

Kaito nodded, indigos stinging. He wanted so badly to tell his mom that she was wrong, that he didn't have her. He didn't have her love, let alone her presence. Why did his mother think otherwise? He headed to his room, he needed to pack up all of Silky's stuff.

The next morning, he woke up alone. Kaito's room felt oddly cold without the kitten's warmth and loud purring to fill the silence. Kaito rubbed his eyes, trying to fight the tears. He'd only had Silky for a few days, why was he feeling so sad? Sniffing, Kaito got out of bed to check to see if his mom was home.

She wasn't. Both Silky and his mom were gone, he was all alone, again. It wasn't fair, what right did his mom have to decide whether he was lonely or not? She wasn't him! She was going around, travelling the world and meeting new people. He was stuck in an empty house, except for when Aoko's dad dragged him out of it.

Kaito's sadness quickly morphed into anger. Fine, if his mom didn't want him to be happy, then he'll just leave! He was happier without his mom, when Silky was still with him. Kaito hurried to his room, angrily writing out a note then running to the kitchen to place it on the table.

It read: I am leaving! I hate you, I hate being alone! I'm not coming back unless you find me!

His mom had to be the one who found him, to prove that she still loved him. Before his dad had died, his mom had been the very best at hide and seek, she always found him. She'll be able to find him this time... If she wanted to, that is.

Struck by a sudden surge of fear, Kaito grabbed his backpack and filled it with as many meal bars and water bottles as he could fit. He... He didn't really trust his mom to even look for him. Biting his lip, Kaito stuffed a thin blanket into the bag, his fluffy ones wouldn't fit

Kaito got dressed for going outdoors, slung his bag over his shoulder, and exited the house. Kaito locked the door then hesitated, indigos fearful and lips drawn into a thin line as he tossed his keys onto the roof. There! Now there was no going back! His mom had to find him. She just had to. He set off into the city, scared but needed to find a good place to hide. Kaito refused to make it easy on her. She deserved it for being so mean... She had been mean, right? Leaving him all alone was a mean thing to do.

By the time night had come, Kaito knew he was very very far away from home. He didn't recognize his surroundings at all! Sticking to the streets had been good, up until it started to get late. He'd then been forced to head into a forest. The police or even other adults would have taken him home if they'd spotted him and that was something that he would not allow! It would ruin everything...

So he was far away from home, lost, and hurt. Kaito sniffed. Walking through a forest at night without a light hadn't been a good idea. He'd tripped and now his ankle hurt whenever he tried to move it.

It was hard to see, but Kaito's ankle didn't feel wet so he at least wasn't bleeding. Kaito shivered, the forest floor had no right to be so cold! He was laying on his blanket even though he'd brought it to cover himself. He'd dressed warmly, but the ground had stolen a lot of his warmth.

Kaito was no longer angry, he was tired, cold, scared, and sad. It had been hours, what if his mom had already left Japan? Aoko's dad would call her right? And then his mom would come back to look for him. He just had to wait a while longer, plane rides were long and wasn't it bad to make calls on planes? Kaito curled up into himself, doing his best to preserve his body heat as tears trailed down his face. His mom had to find him. She just had too. He needed her love again.

Me: So child Kaito was hurting and angry, which make him take some drastic actions and make bad decisions~
