Chapter 20: The Lady In Red

Midnight's POV

After my fight with Yang everyone was absolutely surprised that I came out on top, especially Yang herself. It wasn't a sore loser kind of surprise, more of an impressed kind of surprise.

Once class was over me and my team began heading back to our dorm. Galand suddenly put his arm around my shoulder. I looked over at him and saw him smiling.

Galand: see, I told you it'd be different this time.

Midnight: what?

Alpha: he's talking about your fight with Yang, dude.

Midnight: oh yeah...

I scratched the back of my head.

Midnight: I guess you were right, huh?

Ethan: what I don't get is how you managed to turn the tide on Yang when your aura was so low. If that were me I'd just give up and save myself the embarrassment.

Galand: well, that's where you and Midnight differ, he chooses to up that ante when he's about loose and you choose to forfeit to avoid people laughing at you.

Ethan just rolled his eyes and kept walking.

Galand: what about you, Alpha?

Alpha looked back at us.

Galand: you've barley said a word. What, are you not impressed by Midnight's progress or something?

Alpha: no, I'm impressed. I was just thinking about something.

Galand: and that something was...

Alpha: none of your business.

The 4 of us kept on our way when I began to hear my scroll ringing. I took it out on my pocket and looked to see who it was. It was Selene.

Midnight: hey, you guys go on ahead. It's my sister.

They nodded and continued to the dorm. I answered my scroll.

Midnight: hey, sis.

Selene: hey, little brother. How ya been, how's Beacon treating ya?

Midnight: it's been good, a lot more different than Signal though.

Selene: yeah, I thought the same thing halfway through the first year. How're Yang and Ruby?

Midnight: they're fine, they actually managed to get on the same team during initiation with Weiss Schnee of all people.

Selene: well, ain't that lucky? What about you're team, what're they like?

Midnight: well, there's my partner, Alpha. He's a wolf faunus and nearly sliced my throat open during initiation. Then there's Galand, he's kind of a loose cannon. Lastly, there's Ethan, he's kind of the self conscious, "I can't do this" type.

Selene: sounds like quite the party. My team back at Beacon wasn't too different, a whole bunch of wild cards.

Midnight: yeah, you and the rest of team SLDG really made a name for yourselves here. Some what've you been up to?

Selene: oh, ya know, the usual. Going on missions, traveling the world, saving lives, making memories.

Midnight: well, tell mom and dad I said hi.

Selene: will do. OH! I almost forgot, I'll be paying you a visit for the Vital Festival. I can't wait to see you and your team wipe the competition away.

Midnight: well, I can't wait to see you.

Selene: anyway, I've gotta get going, bye.

Midnight: bye, sis.

We both hung up.

???: hello there.

I turn my head and saw a woman with black hair wearing a red dress standing there, smiling at me.

Midnight: uh, can I help you, miss...

???: Cinder.

Midnight: ok, Cinder, did you need something?

Cinder: I just wanted to have a word with you.

She came closer to me, leaving about 3 inches between us. Suddenly Cinder pushed me up against the wall, causing me to wincing a bit in surprise. My face turned red as she placed her hands on my chest with her smile growing wider.

Cinder: I saw your fight with the blonde girl, you've got some skill.

Midnight: uh...thanks...what're you doing...exactly?

Cinder: just checking out the material.

Her right hand then moved to my arm, where she proceeded to squeeze my bicep.

Cinder: hm...not sure what I expected.

Midnight: umbra, I could use some help here!

Umbra: not my territory.

Midnight: you suck!

Cinder and eye then made eye contact.

Cinder: so...Midnight, was it?

Midnight: uh, y-yeah.

Cinder: you showed impressive power during that fight. What's your secret?

Midnight: um, n-nothing much, just lots of s-semblance training.

Cinder: is that right, do you have somebody helping you with this training.

I was silent for a moment.

Cinder: well? It's considered rude not to answer.

Midnight: uh, y-yeah. Why?

Her smile continued to grow as she took her hand and placed it on my cheek. Cinder then lean forward and whispered in my ear.

Cinder: well...maybe you could introduce me to this friend of your.

My heart beat was going but and my face was burning.

???: um, what're you guys doing?

Me and Cinder looked over and saw Ruby. Thankfully it was just her, if Yang saw this she'd probably loose it.

Midnight: IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, I SWEAR!

Cinder: oh, hello Ruby. Me and Midnight were just having a bit of a chat.

I found an opportunity to escape this situation, and I took it. I rush Ed over to Ruby, took her by the shoulder and walked away with her.

Midnight: hey, Ruby, I just remembered something I needed your help with, let's go!

Me and Ruby walked down the hall, leaving Cinder there, just watching us.

Ruby: bye, Cinder!

I didn't let go of Ruby until we were out of Cinder's line of sight.

I took some time to calm myself down.

Ruby: so what did you need help with.

Midnight: I needed you to help me out of that mess.

Ruby: oh, so what was that about.

Midnight: I don't know, she just pushed me against the wall, started touching my chest, and then started asking weird questions.

Ruby: you want me to walk you to your room.

Midnight: ...yes please.

Ruby took my hand and began escorting me to my dorm room. Once we arrived I thanked Ruby and went inside. Galand was strumming on his guitar, Ethan was on his computer, and Alpha was sharpening his sword with a wet rock.

I sat down on my bed and laid back.

Umbra: well...that happened.

Midnight: yeah, thanks for the help. NOT!

Umbra: if I didn't know just see it, I'd say you've got an admirer, but from the looks of thing, it seemed like she was planning something.

Midnight: ya think?

Umbra: yeah, if I were you, I'd stay cautious around that girl.
