New Avenger, Old Past | Bucky Barnes x Reader

Chapter 16

    As we entered Bucky's room, I was overwhelmed with sudden temperature change, sending a chill down my spine. Bucky plopped me down on his bed, hovering over me.

    "I'm gonna go take a shower, Doll. Make yourself comfortable." Before he left for the bathroom, he planted quick kisses all over my face. This made me giggle, happiness overflowing me. He left and I buried myself in his blankets.

     He had a weighted blanket that was the softest thing ever and felt like home, along with a smaller and cooler blanket. The best part of it, it all smelled of him. The smell of him always reminded me of fall as it also gives me a refreshing yet comforting feeling. I couldn't help but sit and take in his scent.

     After ten minutes or so, I couldn't help but give him a taste of his own medicine. I opened the bathroom door to find steam floating through the air as the shower water ran from the faucet. Bucky didn't notice me walk in and so I stood for a second. I let the feel of steam warm me up, and the sound of his humming flow through my ears,"You know, I could get used to this." I say loud enough for Bucky to hear me.

    "Are we going to make intruding each other's showers a habit now?" I laugh, leaving a smile on my face.

    "I guess it depends if we keep intruding."

    "I guess it does." He turns the shower off and asks me to hand him his towel. I pick of the soft, white towel from his counter and hand it to him through the shower curtain. I turn back to the mirror, only to see a very messy, tired-looking me. But, quite honestly, I couldn't care less. It's only till Bucky steps out of the shower that I start worrying about my appearance. Because, without even trying, Bucky makes me forget how to breathe.

    His towel hangs low on his hips, revealing his chiseled stomach. Water still streams down his body, his hair up in a bun. And his eyes. Oh god his eyes. The steam makes them mysterious but they stick out like a blue moon. They pierce through me, stealing even more air from my lungs. He smiles, and I almost die of heat. And, not the heat from the bathroom,"Like what you see?" My eyes go wide as I realize I've been staring. I look up at the ceiling, trying to appear innocent.

    As he walks past me, he stops and leans down towards me and places his non-metallic arm on my hip. My lungs scream for air, but get none. He places an almost nonexistent kiss on my temple and walks away to put his clothes on, his hand sliding across my stomach as he leaves.

     I throw myself back onto his bed and cover my face with a pillow. He can't see me this flustered I think. If only he knew what he did to me. 

    Before I know it, the pillow covering my lovesick face is taken from me and replaced my the face of a certain super soldier,"What's on your mind, darlin?" 

    "I like darlin. It has a nice ring to it." Bucky smiles and places a kiss on the very tip of my nose. He goes to turn away, but I grab the sides of his face and press my lips to his. He smiles through the kiss, which makes my heart flutter,"You really are something, Barnes."

    "I may be a lot of things," He pauses, rolling over onto his back and resting beside me,"But I'm sure as hell yours." The feeling of butterflies gets so intense I feel like I'm floating.

    "I'll make sure to remember that."

    "I'll makes sure you do." You roll into his arms, the fresh smell of him calming the butterflies and turning them into a warm feeling. Eventually, it gets to the point where I'm almost asleep but not quite. Bucky pulls the blankets over us and holds me tighter. He's still gentle, making sure not to "wake" me. At that moment, I do fall asleep. And, when I say this is the best sleep I've ever had, I sure as hell mean it.
