the truth comes out

Kate had everyone come into her office to watch something on her laptop. Apparently Eldon and Hunter had a dance battle and she wanted us to see it.

"Head slide, nice." Emily cheered once she saw Hunter do his signature move.

Kara knew that miss Kate was pondering on the male soloist now, after seeing the video and seeing Hunter more indulged into dance. She wasn't sure if Eldon should have the solo.

"I'm sure it wasn't easy for Miss Kate to bring this to the team, but this is nationals we're talking about here."

During the video everyone would praise Hunter for the moves that they didn't know he could do. Eldon stood in the back with his jaw tensed as he watched.

"That was amazing." Emily commented as she shut the laptop.

"The same person that brought that video to my attention actually suggested that Hunter would be the better male soloist." Kate told them. "I think that's something we should decide as a team."

"We all know how good Hunter is and we all know how good Eldon is." James said. "Or should I say how much better Eldon is."

"James is right, they're both amazing." Kate assured Hunter once he saw the look on his face. "I guess the only way to settle this is by a vote. That is, of course, Hunter if you want the solo."

"Of course." Hunter replied.

"Okay." Kate nodded. "This is a really tough decision, so I want you to give you guys some time to think it through, and then we'll vote later on today. Thank you."

With that, the group had dispersed from the room, doing there own thing.

"So, what do you think?" Kara asked Michelle as she her and Riley left the office.

"Well, everything that's happened between Eldon and I makes sense now." Michelle nodded.

"Who do you think brought it to Kate?" Riley asked.

"I did." Michelle replied, though she didn't she Eldon stood right next to them, listening to the conversation.

"Are you serious?" Eldon scoffed before leaving.

"Bringing the video to Kate may have hurt Eldon, but honestly, it was what's best for the team."

———

"Guys, what are we gonna do about this whole Hunter, Eldon dance battle situation?" Chloe asked Kara, Emily, Amanda and Giselle as they sat at a table in culture shock.

"I don't even see the situation, to be honest." Emily replied. "Hunter is obviously the better dancer."

"But Eldons our friend, Em." Giselle told her.

"Yeah, we gotta back him up." Chloe nodded.

"Uh, he's not my friend. Why would I back him up?" Emily questioned.

"I think what Emily means is that Eldon being our friend shouldn't matter in this." Kara told them. "Both Hunter and Eldon are amazing dancers but this is nationals we are talking about, we can't just rule somebody out because the other person is our friend."

"Okay, guys. Honestly, you saw the video." Amanda told them. "Obviously, Hunter is the better dancer. He won fair and square."

"Yeah, but maybe he just had an off day." Giselle said. "We all have off days."

"Yeah, and what if there's an off day at nationals?" Emily asked. "Is that really something we need to be worrying about?"

"Regardless, guys, I think it's gonna be a tough decision, so I think we just need to take some time and think about it on our own." Chloe told them.

"Yeah." Kara nodded.

———

"Okay, guys, you've had some time to think about it. Now we need to decide if we're gonna do an open or closed vote." Kate told the group.

"Open." Emily told her.

"Hold up, hold up." James said. "What's the difference between open and closed?"

"An open vote is where we all see who everyone's voting for and a close vote is where we can't." Kara told him.

"Thanks, babe." James grinned.

"Do not call me babe." Kara scowled.

"It's obviously irritating, which is exactly what he wants."

"You know what, why don't we have a vote on wether or not have to have an open or closed vote." West suggested, causing all the group to disagree.

"And will that vote be open or closed?" Michelle asked him.

"Oh yeah, that's right." West nodded.

"Honestly, I struggle to think sometimes that we can even come together as a team just to decided on how to vote."

"Okay, we're gonna do an open vote." Kate told them. "That way everyone can see where everyone else stands. Okay. Those who think Hunter should be the male Nationals soloist, raise your hand."

Amanda, Kara, Emily, Thalia, Riley and Hunter raised their hands.

Kara looked around the room and saw that Eldon had won the majority votes due to their only being 6 hands up.

James and West went over to him and did a bro handshake, congratulating him on keeping the solo.

Though, at the last minute, Michelle raised her hand.

"Seven for Hunter." Phoebe counted.

"It's official, Hunter, you are the new male soloist." Kate told him.

The people that voted Hunter cheered for him but everyone had watched as Eldon stormed out of the studio.

"I can't believe that either of you didn't vote for Eldon." James approached Kara and Michelle.

"It was best for the team." Kara told him.

"Exactly." Michelle nodded.

"Oh, really? Best for the team?" James asked. "Or for you?"

"What?" Michelle whispered just as James walked away.

"Just ignore him." Kara told her.
