The weeks after Christmas flew by and the next thing you knew, it was February and the day before the Second Task. Harry told you that Cedric had given him the clue about the egg in return for Harry warning him about the dragons in the First Task. After following Cedric's advice, Harry figured out that the Second Task would be in the Black Lake and that he'd need a way to breathe underwater for an hour.
After Hermione, Ron and you spent hours in the library with Harry trying to find the most reliable methods of underwater breathing, Neville ran in, having just overheard a conversation between McGonagall and Moody. He pulled a huge Herbology book from his bag and opened it, pointing out something called Gillyweed, which you'd never heard of. It seemed like Harry's best bet at being able to stay underwater for as long as an hour and Neville told Harry he'd get some for him somehow and meet him back at the library that evening. You packed up your stuff and said goodbye to everyone as you made your way out of the library a short while later, and just as you were about to head up the stairs to the common room, a voice called you from the corridor.
"Miss Y/L/N? May I have a word please?" Professor McGonagall beckoned you over.
"Good evening Professor, what is it?"
"I was wondering if you could tell me where I could find Mr Weasley, Ronald Weasley that is, and Miss Granger?"
"Oh! They're actually in the library with Harry, I just left them there a few minutes ago," you tell her and she nodded gratefully and then dismissed you, "thank you Miss Y/L/N, good night."
You headed up to the common room and spent the rest of the evening sitting in front of the cosy fire with your book while the twins chatted animatedly beside you about their predictions for the challenge in the morning. Ginny lounged beside you on the couch with her head resting on your shoulder as she read through her Potions notes. Then she yawned loudly and sat up to look at you, "Y/N do you want to go down to the lake together tomorrow? I want to get there early and find somewhere with a good view, but my friends always take so long to get their arses up and out of bed."
You smiled at her and bumped your shoulder against hers, "of course Gin, we could meet for breakfast beforehand if you like?"
She nodded happily in agreement, "will we ask Hermione too?"
"I haven't seen her all evening, come to think of it. McGonagall was looking for her and Ron earlier, but we'll probably see her at breakfast in the morning? She's always up early anyway," you responded and she agreed, and then you all headed to bed not long after that.
----
"Any bets? Any bets?"
"Place your bets! Place your bets! Come on, place your bets!"
You and Ginny walked down to the lake and could hear the twins shouting at passing students from all the way down the hill.
"Step up mates! Don't be shy," Fred encouraged, shaking hands and patting the backs of some people he knew as they passed by.
"Three lads," George yelled.
"One lady," Fred continued.
"Four go down,"
"But do four come up?" Fred gasped in feigned horror, then he winked at you as you got closer to him. You and Ginny push through them, "don't be so mean," she scolded them, but they only shrugged.
"Any bets?" they continued pestering their fellow students, "Fleur's 10-1!"
You made your way down to the dock, and spotted Harry and Neville.
