"Hey! Let go!".

Laughter.

Looks like she's faster than I gave her credit for, I thought grimly as I raced back the way Sasuke and I came.

I pulled out my cell phone and dialed one, one, zero. Now I was prepared.

"Let go of me!" the voice was shaking with tears now, "Help!".

I could see the men converged upon the small, oddly-dressed figure.

"Hey! Vira!" I heard Sasuke call from a ways behind me.

I had left the stuffed toy with him as I knew it would've slowed me down, like it did Sasuke.

"Sasuke! Help! Please!" then the voice jumped another octave higher, "STOP!" she screamed as they grabbed her arms and began to restrain her movement.

I rushed forward and as I went, I held my phone out in clear view, "Get your hands away from her! I've got the police dialed in and if you don't back away in the next three seconds, I will report you and all of you sorry bastards are gonna spend the night behind bars" I said menacingly as I caught the attention of the men.

They glared at me but made gave no clear indication of backing down.

"One...two..." I started, staring around, "Don't make me say three..." my finger moved up to the call button and hovered dangerously close to it.

Reluctantly, they began to back away from the collapsed girl on the edge of the path. I began to walk forward, though cautiously.

"Vira! What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Sasuke hissed, coming closer but not so much that he was within reach of the men.

I saw him reach for his phone slowly, inconspicuously. I crouched down beside Hana, who looked very traumatized. I pocketed my own phone and touched her shoulder gently. She jolted lightly at my touch but I was literally thrown forward by the contact I received. My head spun as stars swam in my vision.

Those low lives...they hit me from behind!, I hissed as pain shot through my head.

"Vira!" Sasuke cried.

Hands reached out to grip me around the waist and I struck out at them. Hana screamed at the top of her lungs. More hands returned to grab my wrists and wrench me up to my feet. The world wobbled dizzyingly around me as I was put on my feet but not released. I roared and pivoted sharply to my left and brought my right knee up to knock the breath from someone's stomach. They let go of me and collapsed, hugging their stomach, winded. I whipped around and tried to punch the other in the face but instead, received one myself to the stomach. It felt like someone had whacked me with a hammer. I couldn't help but want to curl in on myself, as my stomach felt like it had been stepped on by a giant. I slid to the ground, in too much pain and too dazed to support my own weight. I winced as someone rushed towards me, afraid that it was another incoming attack, but instead, the man who had punched me was suddenly thrown to the ground. Sasuke had the upper hand for about a second before the tables turned and he was being pinned to the ground with the man's hands gripped around his neck. I saw his abandoned cellphone on the ground, a little ways away and the number that had been dialled was the police. I turned my attention back to Sasuke and the man that was currently attacking him.

This guy's absolutely insane!, I thought frantically.

I grabbed a discarded bottle and crept up to the man who was wrestling with Sasuke and smashed it over his head. His eyes rolled up into his head and he slumped forwards, on top of Sasuke.

"Holy mother of-" Sasuke's curse was cut off as police sirens flared in the distance.

I pushed the limp man off of Sasuke and grabbed his hand and helped him to his feet. I gripped his arm so tight, my hands had turned a pale white. There was blood, though mixed with glass, sprinkled on the ground.

"Is he dead?" Sasuke whispered.

I shook my head, "I...I-I...don't k-know..." I stammered, swallowing hard as I took a step towards the body.

Thankfully, Sasuke accompanied me. I held his hand as I approached the man and I reached down slowly, aiming for his neck. I gripped Sasuke's hand tighter and he poised himself to launch another attack if need be. I put my fingers to his neck and waited with a bated breath. Before long, I could feel the regular, if slow, pulsing of his vein in his neck. He was still alive.

I backed away immediately, not minding that I was currently folded inside Sasuke's arms, "Oh god" I was breathing heavily as I tried to press myself harder into Sasuke, hoping to disappear altogether.

Then there was the sound of several pairs of thumping footsteps. The police had arrived. I only discretely remember returning to Hana's side to see how she was but after that, it was just a blur of uniforms, questions, tests and more questions before finally being whisked away to the hospital in an ambulance.

"Oh my god, Vira!" I jolted out of my dazed state as my name was called by the voice I most wanted to hear at the moment.

"Liz..." I looked up from the bandaged hands in my lap to see Liz, looking a bit disheveled but here.

She immediately wrapped her arms around me, "What the hell happened?! I was terrified! I mean, who doesn't jump to conclusions when the police come to your door at one in the morning! I thought you were just going to stay over at Sasuke's place...".

I tried hard to regulate my breathing, "No...is Gaara here too?" I asked, distracted, as I tried to look into the neighbouring hospital ward.

The nurse had just finished patching me up so that the cuts on my hands made from the shattered glass were disinfected and covered up. The doctor had finished checking for any signs of concussion a while ago. I was fine besides the myriad of bruises and cuts I had collected. I had also been advised to stay at home tomorrow as I would likely be sore and a bit dazed after everything that had happened. Sasuke was supposedly in the ward beside me and Hana, in the one on the other side of him. I couldn't help but be worried about him, afterall, he had nearly been strangled. Thankfully, the violaters had been arrested and none of us had been severely injured...physically anyways.

"Why did you go back?" Liz asked, apparently she had heard the whole story.

I sighed and rubbed my forehead, my arms heavy with fatigue, "I...I don't know...I guess it was pretty stupid of me..." I admitted.

Liz shook her head and frowned at me, "No. You don't do things at this level of recklessness without a good reason. You do know why you went back...and I think I have an idea too...but isn't it a bit much? Even if it's right? I mean, you were risking two peoples' lives to do...a good deed...for the one person whom both of you don't even like..." she tried to reason.

I rubbed my hands together lightly as they throbbed gently with pain. It had taken forever to get all the little pieces of glass out.

I looked Liz in the eyes, "Maybe I'll come up with a proper answer later".

She nodded tiredly and dropped down on the hospital bed next to me.

A moment later, a nurse came in with a clipboard, "The doctor says that you should be good to go. You aren't showing any symptoms of concussion and besides a few bruises and the cuts on your hands, you're fine. Just remember to change the bandages at least once everyday and disinfect it before you replace them" she instructed briskly.

I nodded, "Thank you, but I just wanted to ask if my friends are okay?".

She nodded, "Nothing too serious, though one of them has hardly spoken a word since she was here...".

I blinked, "May I go visit them?".

The nurse looked at her watch, "Give it another five minutes, they should be done by then. In the meantime, would you mind filling out these discharge papers?".

I nodded as she handed me the clipboard she was holding.

I tried to take the pen but winced as pressure was applied to my wounds. Liz looked at me pitifully.

"Here, let me do that" she said, taking the clipboard and pen from me.

I sighed and nodded, then turned my attention back out to the door just as the nurse exited. Too bad I couldn't see what was going on in the other wards.
