*I'm Confused*

(Alex has been gone 8 months)

(Covid isn't a thing)

(Jo is still a general surgery attending and is not switching to OB)

(Oh! And Jo is pregnant)

(Almost 9 months)

(She's in the hospital about to leave)

(Her pager goes off)

Jo: great.

(She starts speed waddling to the ER)

(Meredith is doing a consult on stomach pains when Jo walks in)

Mer: what are you doing?

Jo: consult.

Mer: aren't you leaving today?

Jo: yeah, flights in two hours. I was supposed to leave in five but looks like I'll have to postpone the surprise visit. Probably for the best.

Mer: no. I'll take it.

Jo: I was joking. I'm going. Plus, this won't take long. Twenty minutes max.

Mer: okay.

(Jo opens the curtain)

(She looks down at the chart)

Jo: Mr. Brown? Hi. I'm doctor Wilson. I'll be helping you today.

(30 minutes later)

(Jo left, she's in her car on her way home)

(She's still in her scrubs)

Jo: Shit. I need a new toothbrush. 

(She pulls into the Walmart parking lot and goes in)

(As she is checking out, she looks to her side and sees a little girl gazing at her)

(When she looks at the girl, the girl runs, smiling, and hides behind her moms leg)

Girl: momma look.

(She tugs on her moms pants)

Girl: Do you think she works in a hospital?

(The mom looks over at Jo and back down at her daughter)

(Jo is checking out, listening to them, but not looking over)

Woman: I don't know Liv. Why don't you ask her?

(Jo turns around grabbing her bag)

(She looks at the little girl and smiles)

(The little girl smirks)

Liv: hi...

(She says in a shy voice)

Jo: Hi.

Liv: do you work at a hospital?

Jo: I do.

(They both smile)

(The little girl lights up)

Liv: really!?

Jo: yeah.

Liv: you're a doctor?

Jo: mhm.

Liv: what do you do?

Jo: I'm a surgeon.

Liv: a sturgeon?

Jo: no, a surgeon. I operate on people and fix them.

Liv: wow.

(Jo chuckles)
