Byeol's breath seems to stuttered as her heart skips a beat. The world seems to stop spinning as the new information hit her like a brick, "Pardon? Did you just said that Dad turned but was able to be in control?"
Bom nodded to her daughter, "He stayed locked inside the stock room until the sun shines the next day and then he suddenly opens the door and stood there like nothing happened. He can't stop saying that you needed our help the whole night. Keeps repeating it to himself as if it what's makes him keep going."
"As if it's what makes him keep going..." Byeol repeated under her breath, spacing out as her mind bring her to different theories.
'I was determine to meet my parents again and save my friends. That's what I keep telling myself when I was in the brink of insanity. After I've learned the truth, the determination to get out and save my friends strengthen and I seem to lose it whenever someone's in danger. Could it be connected to that or was it an isolated case?' - She thought.
"Byeol," her mother called her which made her to snap back in reality, "Why did you said that you were infected?"
"Huh?"
"Back on the t-tennis court. You said you were infected but didn't turn. Did you get bitten, my star?" the worry on Bom's eyes contrasts the strong and emotionless expression she's displaying.
Byeol's eyes drifted to her friends that were spacing out before going back to her mother, "It was a long story but I was. I turned and I came back, found something that would explain the virus but not enough information about what's happening to us. To put it simply, my cells adapted to the virus instead of eliminating it. They're co-existing inside of us and instead of killing each other, they became one." she explained.
"Byeol-ah," Joon-yeong softly called her, "I don't mean to eavesdrop but why does it seems that you know where to start finding answers? I remember you were the one who said that Hyeon-ju was a zombie and it turns out that you were right."
Byeol blink as it took the attention of the group, all turning to her and expecting some answers. Joon-yeong read the lass' expression and he immediately rephrases his statement, "I don't mean to accuse, I'm just curious."
She knew the time that they will ask why she knows something will come and she was somehow disappointed that it took them too long to notice especially that she wasn't really that sneaky about it, "Hyeon-ju said that Mr. Lee had given her shots and locked her up in the Science Lab, right? And she was biting people. The rotting corpse scent and aggressiveness adds up too. I wasn't really serious that time but I feel like we're in some sort of drama or series by how it started. Mr. Lee was suspicious from the very first start so it would be normal to look at his office first thing because that's where most of his belongings were."
Bom nodded to her daughter, "That's what detectives usually do, to start investigating at the crime scene and then branches out after that."
A ghost smile made its appearance on Bom's lips but keep it to herself. She inherited her father's great deductive and problem-solving skills.
"Oh, that makes sense," Dae-su commented, nodding, "Imagine if we're really in a tv show. How cruel the director and scriptwriter for making us suffer like this."
Byeol was lost at words by his statement. If only he knows.
"So, dad will be back?" asks Byeol to her mother.
Bom nodded to her daughter, squeezing her shoulder comfortingly, "He'll find his way back to us. He's not the type to break his promise."
"I love you, Mom," Byeol stated sincerely, her voice barely above whisper but her eyes were enough to convey the emotions she wanted to convey, "You and Dad are the best parents I will ever have."
A disgrace for her universe parents but she would admit that she's more attached to them. If it wasn't for their old portraits, she wouldn't even recognize the two. But both of the universe parents treats her the same---like a treasure that they cherish and love with all their heart. A parent's love to their offspring is unconditional, a phenomenon that happens naturally no matter the situation is. Some might not be able to embrace this god's gift but you can't deny the natural connection of your own blood. Some have trouble showing it or has a different way of communicating their love but at the end of the day, a parent is a parent.
"Likewise, my daughter," Bom told her affectionately, kissing the crown of her head as she used the sleeves of her tactical suit to wipe the blood off of her face.
Silence reigned after that, the bird chirping as the survivors spaced out on their own mind space. The sun shining down on them like they weren't suffering, the bird's singing like the whole city wasn't dead.
When the group of three arrives after their spotting, they immediately share their findings, "It drops on the basement at that side and there are exposed steel bars, no way we can jump." said Mi-jin.
"That side faces the school, so there's no point of trying it." Ha-ri second-the-motion, referring to the right side of the building.
"The ground are full of zombies so there's no way we can get out without risking one of us to get infected," the girl with colorful mouth lamented.
"There's a door on the first floor that leads to the mountain, if we can somehow get down without the zombies seeing us, we can go through there," So-ju informed the survivors.
Bom had checked her rifle for remaining bullets and even the gun was not enough for that suicide mission, "I've got three bullets left. It will not last long."
Byeol heave a sigh because she have a plan already forming inside of her brain, "I'll make a sound and attract the zombies towards the highest floor. They will run after-----"
However, she wasn't able to to continue her statement when her ears----or their ears caught something. The two hambies frozing on their spot as the colors escapes on their face.
"This is a public announcement. Explosives will be detonated at the sports complex, Hyosan High School, Future College, and Hyosan Intersection. If you hear this, take shelters in subways and underground garages."
"What? Why?" Cheong-san asks his girlfriend as the others perk up in alarm.
"Explosives..." Byeol blurted out.
"What?" Gyeong-su asks, not really able to catch up.
"They're telling us to take cover. There will be explosives." Nam-ra explained and that's when they noticed the white fabric covering her left eye.
"What do you mean by explosives?" Hyo-ryeong fretted.
"Are you girls sure about that?" Su-hyeok cleared out, denying the clear possibility that they did not only left them here to fend for themselves but they're also bombing their location.
"Sports complex, Hyosan Intersection.." Byeol started, her mind drifting to the tennis court where her father is. But surely, he would be able to hear it, right?
"Future College... and our school," Nam-ra gasps in disbelief, "They're going to bomb our school."
"Yah, are those fucking soldiers gonna shoot missiles to us?" Wu-jin asks in disbelief, "No offense, Mrs. Jung."
"None taken."
"When is it going to happen?" Dae-su asks next.
"There wasn't a time stated," Nam-ra answered.
"But if they're announcing that, I'm sure that it wouldn't be that long before they detonate the bombs," Byeol asserted and with sudden urgency coursing her system, she stood up, "We need to go and execute the plan now. We have no time for voting. I'm going to clear your way out and I'll catch up as soon as you get out. Don't wait for me, I can find my way back."
"Byeol-ah," Bom called her daughter softly, grabbing her hand, "May the odds be ever in your favor."
"I survive a freaky car accident, woke up from a coma and became a new specie. This is nothing," Byeol assured them before she turns to Cheong-san and On-jo, "I'll see you guys later."
She was about to walk towards the window when she heard it, "Cheong-san!"
