An Elain problem

Eve was staring out from the window in her apartment when someone knocked at the door. It had been a week since she had been back and she was yet to see Az after he had taken off that day. Mor had seemed a bit conflicted that day though Eve did not understand why. Others were normal as usual, well, as normal as they could be.

She opened the door to see Nesta. "You are back, Amren mentioned it," she stated and Eve nodded. "Returned last week." "How was it?" "A good change, come on in," Eve replied and let her in. Nesta threw her a copy of a book which she caught a bit sloppily. Without another word, they sat on their respected couches and started reading. It was their own book club of sorts.

They stayed like this for quite some time before another knock sounded. Surprised, Eve peeked through the look-through to see how was it. No one came at her apartment much unless she knew beforehand and Amren never came. Thus, it was quite to her shock when she saw the small demon impatiently waiting outside, her foot tapping rhythmically on the hardwood floor. Cautiously opening the door, she let her in.

Amren blinked when she saw Nesta there. "I forgot you did things other than drinking and fucking," she commented the first thing as she entered and Nesta snorted. "Amren, what a surprise," Eve said, not wanting to hear the conversation between the two fiery females. Amren turned towards her and clicked, "you look better." "I do, thanks." "But my question is, why is the Shadowsinger grumpier than usual." Eve blinked; she hadn't met Azriel since the past week. Everyone had told her he was off on some business. Huh.

"He is in Velaris?" Eve questioned. Amren gave her a curious look before nodding, "came with some information and a few bruises." At this Eve' eyes widened but Amren shook her off. Making herself comfortable on the couch with her legs folded, she asked her, "I have need of you. Are you up for talking about your past world?" Amren asked, "I need to update my books and some information seems lacking."

Eve sighed but asked, "what do you want to know?" "Which century are you from?" "21st," Eve answered and thus the questions began. Eve did not mind talking about it as much as she had thought she would. It was quite nice actually, to talk about it and get some weight off her chest. By the time they were done, Nesta was dozing in Eve' bedroom and the sun had almost set.

"Oh, we are having dinner at the House of Wind today, meet us at the townhouse by 8," Amren told her and left, smiling faintly at the progress Eve had seemed to be done. She was proud.

Dressed casually, she made her way to the townhouse. She found Elain outside, tending to her flowers and thorns. In the past week, she had not talked with her either but she did not mind. They never got along it seemed. She was about to enter when Elain called out to her, asking for help. Hesitatingly, she went to help her, her stomach grumbling. "Can you hold this?" she asked, handing her an assortment of flowers. Eve obliged.

"How was your visit?" Elain asked. "Nice, they are all good company," Eve replied, thinking of a way to put in a good word for Lucien. "I suppose you would fit right in with the Band of Exiles," came the reply and Eve raised her brow. That comment was unnecessary and uncalled for. Still, she kept herself from retorting, keeping in mind Elain was Feyre and Nesta's sister. What went wrong with her though, Eve was yet to figure out. "Well, thank you for doing as I said, you can go now," she dismissed her and left smiling innocently. Eve huffed and for a good measure, picked a stone and threw it on a rose bush that made Lucien think of Elain before following the latter to the house.

She made her way in, hoping to see Azriel and she did see him.... conversing with Elain. Trying to stop the negative energy from consuming her, she made her way to where Rhys stood. He had tried asking her for information about the Exiles before but she had not given him an answer except stating that she had gone as a friend and not as a spy and an emissary of the Night. Besides, she hadn't tried prying on them and did not know anything vital anyway. She understood why he had asked but had been disappointed in him nevertheless. He had apologized later when Eve had scolded some sense into him, of course.

"Eve! Finally, back me up. Mor is bullying me again and Rhys does nothing," Cassian said as she approached them. She chuckled, "I will if you give me some food." Cassian grinned at that, "my kind of female, say want to go out sometime?"

Azriel, seeing her come, gently excused himself from Elain and went to where she stood. "She is hungry not stupid," he said, making Eve laugh as she turned to look at him. She smiled though it was not completely genuine. "When did you return?" "Today morning," he admitted. She marked his face as if checking for bruises before turning back to the conversation.

They made small talk, waiting for Amren to come. Finally, when she did, she simply turned towards Eve and asked where was Nesta. "She was.... Tired," Eve replied, even if everyone knew she was busy in the company of strangers. Amren huffed, "She is hanging by a thin thread." Rhys tensed and Feyre' face became a bit serious, Eve tried defending her friend, "she is not completely gone." "Not yet," came the reply. Amren walked towards the entrance when Rhys turned towards her, "you talked to her today?" Eve hummed, "she came by." Feyre gulped while Rhys asked, "and?"

Eve raised her brow; he might be High Lord but he was not privy to Nesta' private life details... not that she had much of it. "We sat and read till Amren came," she replied, snapping before heading out again.

"She is our sister, yet she hangs out with her," Elain said under her breath so no one heard her, venom coating her words, before following. Jealousy was a bitter pill.

Happy reading :)
