"Here's the thing;
I can't do anything right."

The recent events had taken a toll on two residents of the McCall house in particular; Jade and Scott. Scott being because Allison had broken up with him, and Jade being because... well, actually they didn't know why cause she wouldn't tell them.

"We should probably go to Scott first. Jade will more than likely try to attack us straight away. Scott might wait a few seconds," Max responded, leading the way down the hallway.

Melissa agreed, opening the door quietly. They entered Scott's room, the boy wrapped like a burrito under his plain duvet.

'The police search continues for alleged killer, Derek Hale-' his alarm began but was soon shut off by Max. He jumped onto the bottom of his cousins bed, sitting on his legs with the hope to wake him up. It earned a muffled yell from Scott and Max landing with a thump on the floor. Okay, so maybe he wasn't a morning person.

"We should probably set that to buzzer," Melissa sighed, kneeling down by her son. Slowly, she pulled the duvet down to see his face, his chocolate brown eyes staring back at her. "You alive in there?"

"No."

"Not ready to go back to school?"

"No."

"Wanna stay home another day?"

"No."

"Want a brand new car?" she asked. His eyes lit up hopefully. Well, that had caught his attention. "Me too!" she gasped, smiling. "This is about what's-her-face, right? Allison? Do you want to talk about it?"

"Not with you," he replied. He was trying to escape to the privacy of his bathroom, but his mom wasn't giving up that easily.

"Okay, slightly offended by that. With Max then?"

"Huh?" Max queried, his head snapping up at the sound of his name. He was laying on the floor, propped up on his elbows and tracing a pattern on the carpet.

"I don't need to talk about it. I'm gonna get her back," he replied, closing his bathroom door and letting his hands grip the cool sink.

"That's optimistic," Max noted, getting to his feet and tapping a rhythm out with his feet.

"Jade next. Do I need a full suit of armour?" Melissa quirked a brow.

"Yup."

"Hey!" Melissa yelled, catching the pillow that had been fired at her face. Cautiously, she approached the blonde girl who was spread out in her double bed. "How are you feeling?"

"Like I almost got murdered the other day. Oh wait,"she replied sarcastically. Her voice was slightly muffled, her face buried in another pillow. She was already holding onto the wooden pillars of her headboard, just in case she was going to be literally dragged out of bed. It wouldn't be the first time it would have to happen.

"Do you want to stay off school again today?" Melissa asked gently, sitting down on the bottom of Jade's bed.

She was quiet, weighing up her options. On one side, she wouldn't have to face Jackson, Lydia or Allison. But on the other hand, she'd probably fall behind in school work. That would just make her anxious and then she'd begin to avoid school altogether and it would go around in a cycle that was hard to break. Reluctantly, she sat up. "Can I just play it by air? Maybe if I feel better, I can go in later?"

"Yeah, sure," Melissa smiled softly, nodding. "I've got to head out to work, so message me later if you're going in, just so I know where you are."
