The rest of the summer went by slowly for Claire. Remus didn't want to let her out of his sight, but she wanted privacy more than she ever had. She kept feeling this odd energy around her, especially around the full moon. She kept getting sicker every month too, and Remus would have to carry her into Lyall's house because she would be too weak the even stand. Remus had talked to Dumbledore and he had tasked Snape with coming up with a potion to help her, but everything was difficult because she was the first known child to live so long.

"How are you feeling today?" Remus asked softly as he closed the blinds in her room. It was the last full moon before she would go to Hogwarts, and Remus was worried that he would have to keep her home if Snape couldn't come up with a solution.

"It hurts," Claire sniffled, curled up in a tight ball. She had been sick for almost a week now, and she had lost weight from how often she was throwing up. It seemed as if whatever happened at rhe Quidditch World Cup had ruined her even more. She couldn't respond to any letters and Remus had to send Harry, Hermione, and Ron letters to explain that she had been sick. Draco had sent her a few letters, but he had taken those and put them in his desk where she couldn't find them. Claire didn't want to hear from Draco anyways, so she didn't say anything when she saw Remus hide the letters.

"What hurts?" Remus asked, gently sitting on her bed. He felt her head and felt his heart clench at how warm she was.

"Everything," Claire croaked, coughing into her pillow. Remus frowned and got up to get her a cool cloth. Dumbledore had forbidden them from bringing her to St. Mungo's in fear of the Healers finding out the truth and had instead sent over different potions every month to help, but Remus was almost at the point where he would rather risk the hospital than see her like this.

"Dumbledore sent over some more potions. You need to sit up long enough to drink them," Remus told her, putting a smile on his face as he tried to seem comforting. He barely even noticed his own pains anymore, too concerned with Claire. Her sickness was getting worse and impacting her for longer periods of time.

Claire hated the potions that Snape made for her. They all tasted horrible because they were based on Wolfsbane, but they weren't working. Even the ones they sent for pain and fever seemed to work less with every passing month.

"I hate it," Claire sobbed. She hated feeling like a child and crying all the time. She felt like a burden to her father and grandfather, but she was so sick that she didn't care.

"I know, but you have to drink it," Remus sighed. Claire grimaced as she drank the potion. "Snape seemed extra sure about this one."

Claire tried to get back under her covers, but Remus stopped her.

"Let's go sit in the common room," Remus suggested. Claire sniffled but nodded, leaning almost all of her weight onto her father as he helped her walk.

"I don't know what's wrong with me," Claire said softly, her voice scratchy.

"We're going to fix everything. I promise," Remus said desperately. He had even gone to some werewolf friends to see if they had any answers, but he could only reveal so much and no one knew anything. He was growing more desperate by the day, and he had even asked Sirius to look into it and see if he could find some answers.

"Can you tell me about the day I was born?" Claire asked with a sniffle. Remus grunted a little as he shifted, his body protesting as it got ready for the night ahead.

"Well, James burst into our house at almost 3 in the morning to tell us that Lily was in labor," Remus started, a fond smile on his face. "I thought Emaline was going to kill him with how upset she was at being woken up...I think that by that point she was considering leaving Voldemort....but of course I'll never know for sure."
