"Come on, Wai. Dad needs you to come right now." Tutuila said.

"What does he want?" Hawaii started, but saw America standing by a familiar face.

"Just let me treat it!"

"God damn it America, just get me Hawaii already!" Philippines snapped, "If you don't get her, I swear, I will put my fingers in this wound and make it worse!"

"Philip?" Hawaii said, her eyes widening. "Oh, God, you're hurt."

"Ayos ka lang ba?" (Are you okay?) She asked, and stared at the large wound on his shoulder. It was infected, no doubt.

She immediately took Philippines arm, and started to examine the wound. It looked like it hadn't been tended to for a couple of days. She then stood straight up, and looked around with venomous eyes.

"Hawaii, let..."

"America, leave us alone! You do enough damage as it is!" She snapped, as she turned back to her friend. "If you really want to help, get me some damned alcohol and the sewing kit. Oh, and a candle."

After receiving the equipment, she started to shoo everyone out.

"Let the savage treat the savage." Texas quipped as he was leaving. "This is exactly why they need to be Americanized."

"Texas, fuck off." Hawaii said, and slammed the door. "That boy, I swear to God... I'm going to punch him one day."

Phil stared at her, as she started readying the equipment. "So... you too, huh? He took your independence too."

"Yep." Hawaii said, and started to wipe the wound with a cloth. "Is the bullet still in there?"

"Yes. We weren't able to get it out before... he captured me."

"Shit." Hawaii cursed under her breath. "Alright. I'm going to have to try to get it out. Which means I'll have to use something to numb your arm."

"I trust you." He said, and Hawaii slightly smiled.

"This is going to sting." Hawaii warned, and then poured the alcohol over his wound, receiving a hiss of pain from Phil. "I hope I am deserving of this trust."

"You remember the package you sent me? The one with the bandages? It helped. A lot." Philippines said, his voice full of gratitude.

"That was nothing, Phil. Princess Kaiulani suggested it, actually." Hawaii smiled. "I only wish I could have helped you fight. But... America."

"He called it the Philippine Insurrection. He always dumbs it down, as if you didn't deserve to be free." Hawaii said, her voice wavering ever so slightly.

"I see." Philippines said, nodding. "This was a war. It was a war that I lost."

"You will get independence. And when you do, you'll be an amazing nation. I have a feeling." Hawaii smiled softly. It was a broken, knowing smile. "You have been through too much not to be."

"When both of us get independence. Not just me. You and I both will." Philippines said, and took her hands. "Don't you dare give up on me. You are the Kingdom of Hawaii. You are a great nation. You don't get to feel sorry for yourself."

Hawaii's breath caught in her throat as she looked up at Philippines, who was giving her a hard stare. "I guess... I guess we'll have to see about that, huh Phil?"
