"Hey, mi amiga! What's the tea?" Risa was surprised by Annie's sudden question. She had just entered the cafe that Brian managed, which is actually their usual place.
"And, why are you here? What tea do you mean?" Risa was confused on why her friend is at their usual place. It's not that she doesn't want her friend to be there but Annie just texted her this morning that she's busy with all her school works and would probably stay up all night.
"Oh, you're here! How's it goin?" Brian said, placing the snack he prepared before Risa arrived.
"I don't know and you still didn't answer my question, young lady" Risa said shifting her eyes to Annie.
"Well, Brian here" Annie said, placing her arms on Brian's shoulder before she continued
"Said that you're in need of support. He was panicking and told me you might be in a tight situation so I come running down here."
Risa didn't even know what to say. She just looked at Brian with a what the hell look, which the latter just shrugged off.
"What? It looks like it" Brian defended
"So, who are we killing?" Annie said, picking up the knife that for some reason was put on the table
"Oohh, I love that! I'm hiding the body" Brian said enthusiastically and already made plans with Annie on how to kill and where to hide the body after.
"What the hell! Guys! We're not killing anyone nor we're hiding a body! And put the knife away before someone get hurts. You know how clumsy you are" Risa said, massaging her temple and wonder how she had psychotics friends again. Oh yeah, because of Fion. It's always because of Fion! Well, at least now, it's not about him but it sure is worst than back then.
"Ooh we're not?" Annie said with sadness in her eyes. She didn't even mind the clumsy part she's more concerned that they were not killing.
"Oh, I thought I'm about to finally show you guys my digging skills." Brian added
"And I thought we're almost at the exciting part" Annie said once again
Risa was so surprised to see her two best friends looking so sad just because they can't kill and it's not like the two people are talking about killing pests, they're talking about humans! Killing humans! People! Now she's most afraid of their future, she would literally tell the world that she's not their friend if the two would somehow end up in jail because of murder, but again who is she kidding? She could never turn her back when it comes to these two people.
"What the hell!? Brian, just what exactly did you tell to this young lady right here?" Risa asked the guy while pointing at the girl beside her
"I already told you! He said you're in need of support. Didn't you hear me? OH MY GOSH! Did you lost your ear? Should we bring you to the hospital?" Annie said worriedly and quickly examine if Risa's ears are still intact.
"Oh, it's still there. We don't need to go to the hospital" Annie said, smiling so wide like she just receive a candy.
"Stop that" Risa said, removing Annie's hands from her ears. Sometimes she wonders how exactly Christian manage to handle her best friend's crazy side.
"Okay fine! Brian said you looked so hurt and that you almost cried. So care to elaborate what happened? Because this guy right here is not really helpful when it comes to details" Annie said more seriously now. Risa just looked at Brian with disbelief. She thought that it will only be the two of them. Well, she doesn't really want things to scatter but it's not like she will be able to hide what happened from Annie at all.
"What? You can't blame me! I suddenly became your boyfriend back there when all I did is literally just called your name and greet you and tell you I didn't expect to see you at the park because you're not really the park girl type. And then it was so silent when the older lady walked away and it felt like I'm in a middle of the war it was like silence before the storm and I know it should be calm before the storm but no! The two of you are not even calm! I can feel it in my groin!" Brian mumbled non stop that if it's not from his serious expression and serious information, the two would probably laugh at his mumbling.
"What? The hell he became your boyfriend!? I mean yeah sure, Brian had this huge crush in you during Freshmen years but you were so into Fion that you didn't even knew and I'm so glad that you and Brian manage to express each other's feelings before he went for Ohio, but this!? Just why?" Annie asked confused at what's happening.
It's true. Brian had a huge crush on Risa and Risa had a huge crush on Fion while Fion had a huge crush on the beautiful cheerleader back in freshmen who also had a crush on other guy. Same heartbreaks but the difference is Brian and Risa manage to salvage their friendship meanwhile Fion and her had a huge parting.
"Can't help it. Maeve was uncomfortable. There's this child who thought we were about to have sex when all I did was tickle her and it didn't even help when the child's mother looked at us with disgust" Risa explained, sitting at one of the chair before pouring herself some cucumber juice.
"Still don't get it" Annie said which earned a sigh from Risa.
"She was uncomfortable so she emphasize the word boyfriend, referring to Brian and it hurts to see her being uncomfortable so I just go with the flow."
"What!? And she didn't even know Brian! I mean, she didn't know Brian, right?" Annie asked for confirmation
"No, she didn't. And I told you, she felt uncomfortable that's why she said it" Risa defended, because it looks like her best friend is about to judge the woman she's in love with.
"The hell, Risa! Even if she feels uncomfortable she shouldn't have pushed you to some guy whom she clearly didn't even know your relationship with! What if it's not Brian and someone else!? She just fucking treat you like a sacrifice so that she won't be judge! Even if you love her, doesn't mean she can treat you like that!" Annie said, like a mother scolding her child.
"Wait, love her? I'm confused, what you mean love her?" Brian said, after he swallowed some nachos.
"Oh, I-I'm sorry" Annie indeed is sorry. She was so caught up in the moment that she didn't even realize she just literally out her best friend without their consent.
"No, it's fine. I mean, he should know." Risa said, squeezing Annie's hands for reassurance.
"What should I know?"
"That I'm into girls, Brian." Risa said which earned a big oh from Brian but then later on smiled and give her a big warm hug and told her how proud he is for having such a courageous friend who's not afraid to show the world her authentic self.
"Anyway, back to the topic. Why the hell would she do that!?" Annie asked once again, but Risa's not having it. The least she wants to hear is how Maeve reacted on the situation earlier. Her head is ringing through her ears and it feels like she's about to suffocate
"Guys, please. Can we please not talk about it? I mean, it's really a bad day" She pleads. The two understand and just sit there in quiet.
"I just hope nothing will change between us after what happened" Risa mumbled.
And oh how she's wrong. Because whether you like it or not change is constant. After all, hoping that nothing will change between them is just a wishful thinking.
