Make it Right

C H A P T E R 1 8

Maeve laugh at the meme that Risa had just send to her. This has been their routine now, sending each other funny memes whenever they are bored in school or wherever they are. Avery see how big the smile plastered in her friend's face so she can't help but to comment about it. Plus, the girl isn't really paying much attention to her. 

"Someone's happy" 

"Risa just send me a funny meme, that's why" Maeve explained while typing a reply for Risa. Avery was surprised to know that Risa is the one who texted and not Maeve's boyfriend, Greg. Something's going on she thought

"Say, you look different these days" This comment made Maeve stop from what she's doing and focus her attention at her friend. 

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing. It's just, you're glowing. Like you are in love" this made Maeve laugh which made Avery confuse on why her friend is laughing

"I have a boyfriend Ave, of course, I'm in love" Come Maeve's reply that made Avery mentally face palm. Seriously, this girl seems to be so oblivious of her own feelings. 

"Yeah, but it's not like you've been spending so much time with Greg these days and I bet you guys haven't even contact each other since like what? Last 2 weeks?" 

"Where are you heading with this, Ave?" Maeve frown, looking at her friend. Avery wants to tell her where she's heading with her statement like maybe her friend is falling for another person, but she's got a feeling that her friend is not really that ready to face the truth; her own truth. 

"Nothing" Avery said instead before Maeve heard another notification sound from her phone. And then she was smiling once again. A big one at that. 

"I need to go. Need to catch my girl's performance tonight" Before Avery could reply, Maeve's already on her car and she can't help but to say the word 'Oh, Evey, evey, you're totally hopeless' She wants to smack her friend and tell her what she's missing, Maeve just call Risa her girl yet she doesn't even know her own feelings. But then again, who is she to meddle with her friend's love life and sexuality when the other one is clearly in denial. After all, it's hard for someone to know they're gay when all their life, they know they're straight. 

"Evey, you're here!" Risa said, surprised to see her best friend at the cafe. Well, Maeve promised that she'll see Risa perform tonight, but Risa didn't really want to expect that much. After all, expectation could only lead to disappointment.

"Didn't I promise to see your performance tonight?" Maeve replied, sitting at one of the table that Risa prepared for her. They had been always together ever since the amusement park. Maeve would always sleep over at Risa and they would hang out and make promises on where they wanna go and what they should do the next day. That being said, up until now Risa still wasn't able to move together with the group, much to Annie's liking that made her scowled right after seeing the girl and so she made a detour at the kitchen and complained at Brian once again. 

"Please, do something with that girl. Like flirt with Risa or something. I don't want her to be near our friend" 

Annie has always been like this ever since the accident at the bar and though she means well, Brian just can no longer take it. Annie always tells him to do something with Risa's relationship with Maeve just because he's the single one at the group and the one whom Maeve referred to as Risa's boyfriend. 

"And we've been through this before Annie. I can't possibly meddle on Risa's happiness. These days she's always filled with bright energy and it made me happy to see her like that and if that girl is the cause of it then let Risa be with her. I know you don't fully trust the girl but can't you give her the benefit of the doubt?"

"Benefit of the doubt!? That girl dragged our best friend at the bar full of maniac people and left! If Fion wasn't there do you think she could still be with us!?" Annie whisper yelled and walk out which made Brian let out a heavy sigh. 

"Hey, what just happened?" Lilian asked, bringing the used plates in the sink. Ever since they move in at Brian's, Lilian offered to help at the cafe while Fion look after their business. This is so someone could look after Leo. 

The performance has now started and though Risa is so nervous she made a promise to do her very best tonight. This is the first time that Maeve would be hearing her sing, she can't afford to messed it up this time. She decided to sing 'Night Changes' by One Direction since Maeve's is a big fan of the band. 

~Going out tonight, changes into something red. Her mother doesn't like that kind of dress, everything she never had she's showing off~ 

Risa sang the lines beautifully while looking at the girl whom her heart belongs to. She was smiling and that made Risa reciprocate it as she continue singing the song.

~Moving too fast, moon is lighting up her skin. She's falling, doesn't even know it yet. Having no regrets is all that she really wants~ 

With a loud thumping of heart, Maeve got lost on Risa's voice. It was so beautiful that she can't even understand what she's feeling. It feels like they are the only one in the room and Risa's  only singing for her. She felt warmth, but rather than that she felt... scared. Why the hell would she feel scared? She was confused, but she refused to ruin the night so she focused on the song, though Risa's moving lips and mesmerizing eyes is too much of a distraction. 

~We're only getting older baby, and I've been thinking about it lately, does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes~ 

~Everything that you've ever dreamed of, disappearing when you wake up but there's nothing to be afraid of even when the night changes. It will never change me and you~

And with a final strum of her guitar, Risa's performance had ended with yet another loud applause from the audience, Maeve included. She can't help but to feel proud of her best friend, Risa for being on stage and singing the song without a single hitch and that made her feel another tingles in her heart, but it's not like she'll take a pause and figure why it's happening so the night decided to continue its pace.
