"Risa, your boyfriend's looking for you" Annie's statement made Risa confused, 'cause since when the hell did she had a boyfriend? But when she realized what Annie means, the morena just let out a giggle, too much for Maeve's liking. The brunette didn't like it at all and before she could stop herself she already said something
"She doesn't have a boyfriend" Maeve said, frowning at the thought of Risa having a boyfriend. She's sure her best friend doesn't have one, but maybe she does and that made the brunette felt uncomfortable for some reason.
"Oh, aren't you the one who match make her with some guy? You're the one who told some guy he's Risa's boyfriend so you should know it by now who I am referring to" Annie said with her eyebrow raised, seeming to challenge the brunette.
Of course, Maeve knows whom she's referring to. And she also know how foolish she was to push Risa to some guy. She admit to her foolishness, but Annie's scrutinizing gaze made her feel like Annie doesn't even want her to be near Risa at all. And yup, she's right at that one.
'Oh, boy, this is not looking good' Risa thought as she see Maeve's hands starts to clench slowly. She reach for the latter's hands and squeeze it reassuring the brunette that it's fine. Risa can't understand why Annie's been acting like a bitch, though but knowing all the stories she shared with her best friend just make it all sense why she's acting like that.
"Annie, please be good." Brian said out of nowhere, saving Risa's almost miserable night. but who knows? Maybe it's really a miserable night. Brian's comment made Annie walk away from the three
"I'm sorry for her actions. She's just on her period (which clearly, she's not. But still) Anyways we've met before, but I haven't really introduce myself formally. I'm Brian and rest assured Risa and I are just best friends since freshmen years. But I'm gonna come clean, I had a huge crush on her before but that died down after the rejection"
Brian didn't know why he said it, but he still did. Who knows it might help and it's the truth anyway. And yes, it did. Knowing from the guy himself that he doesn't have any lingering feelings at Risa made Maeve feel assured, but why does she even need that? It's not like the two are dating or something.
"Anyway, Risa. I'm reminding you that the boss missed you so please schedule some time to see him" Brian added, which made Maeve wonder about the boss and why he missed Risa. But she figured it's just because she's the best performer on the cafe.
And yup, she's wrong. If you still don't know who the boss is, that would be none other than the 3 year old, Leo. Another yup, they decided to call the little boy their boss. After all, they are all at his mercy.
"Tell him to not worry because I'll be seeing and would be spending time with him soon." she replied, earning a nod from Brian who left after catching up with each other.
"Shall we go?" Risa asked the brunette who's already full from all the dessert Risa ordered for her. It's already time for the cafe to close and a cue for the two to go back at Risa's condo unit. They first bid farewell at Brian and though Annie still wasn't in the mood, she still gave Risa a peck on her cheeks and tell her best friend to take care on the way home.
"Your best friend Annie doesn't seem to like me. Though the feeling is mutual" Maeve commented when they are already on the highways. This earn a laugh from Risa knowing the two is really not into the idea of getting to know each other.
"Well, she has her reasons" Risa said, leaving Maeve to think what reason could it be why the girl didn't like her. She doesn't like to dwell on it much though, so she just opted to sync her spotify into Risa's car bluetooth.
Halfway to the drive when the rain suddenly poured down creating loud noises from the outside. Risa decided to slow down her driving in case that the road might get slippery. But Maeve have another plan when she told her best friend to pull over.
"Say, had you ever tried dancing in the rain?" Maeve asked with a big smile on her face which made Risa unconsciously smile
"And what are you talking about?" Risa knew what her best friend is talking about, but she just can't help but to tease the girl beside her.
"Oh, come on babe! You know what I'm talking about. Let's dance in the rain, shall we?" Maeve said, pulling Risa's arm and waiting for the morena's answer
"We can't. You might catch a cold and we don't even have music"
"Nonsense! So what if I catch a cold? It's once in a lifetime and you don't need to have music to dance. So be a good lo..- babe and dance with me. Please" Maeve said, almost blurting out the word lover. And again, don't ask her why 'cause she doesn't have single clue.
And as hopelessly in love as she is, Risa agreed after seeing the brunette pout which she find so cute and irresistible.
And that brings the two of them alone on an empty street dancing slowly under the pouring rain. They never cared if someone looks at them like they have both lost their minds or if someone would be there and snap a picture of them. They were both just enjoying the moment. Enjoy it until it last.
Risa started singing one of the tracks from High School Musical 3 which successfully brought a smile into her best friend's face.
~Take my hand, I'll take the lead and every turn will be safe with me. Don't be afraid, afraid to fall, you know I'll catch you through it all~
With Maeve's arms encircled in her best friend's neck and Risa's hands holding the brunette's waist, Risa swayed their bodies in the same rhythm. It didn't take long before Maeve sing another line, following Risa's guide
~No mountains too high and no oceans too wide~
Before the two knew it, they were already singing a beautiful duet that would last forever in their minds, in their hearts and in their memories.
~'Cause together or not, our dance won't stop. Let it rain, let it pour, what we have is worth fighting for. You know I believe that we were meant to be~
They sang the line, looking intimately at each other's eyes, letting each words of the lyrics go through the rain and become a memory that will never ever be erased.
~It's like catching lightning, the chances of finding someone like you~
Risa sang another line, twirling Maeve and back to her arms. This made her best friend let out a cute giggle and continue her duet with her best friend.
~It's one in a million, the chances of feeling the way we do. And with every step together, we just keep on getting better~
~So can I have this dance~
Risa sang enthusiastically, making the brunette's heart beat 2 times louder.
~Can I have this dance~
Maeve continued as she leans closer, caressing the morena's face which made the latter become stiff and gulp for a second. They were too close that Risa could already feel her best friend's breath and the loud thumping of her heart doesn't even help at all. Maeve seems to realize what she's doing so she backed away as fast as the light.
And that was when Risa knew it would be an another awkward drive and another Maeve ignoring her until she wants to. But it's not like she can do anything about it, she loves the girl too much that she doesn't even care whether she's walking in a road filled with thorns.
