After the last chapter, I was able to reach a total of 23,313 words. To those who are still out of the loop, I wrote TCOTRB as part of the challenge for myself. I have always wanted to join the Wattys. I remember starting out on the fourth of June 2022 until now on August 7th. I tried to see if it were possible to reach over 50,000 words until the deadline — August 19th.
How can anyone even resist a reward of US$ 5,000? That's worth Php 277,754.17 here in the Philippines!
I remember putting my other works on hold and letting my readers know about it. It was a good thing I had saved a few drafts on the app since last year. Of course, I begin to realize just how impossible it is. Due to personal and health reasons, I couldn't find much time to write a long chapter. I always make sure to get eight hours of sleep and stay hydrated. I also suffer from writer's block which can span for days. I've already been staring at my mobile and laptop screens for most of the day so breaks are also necessary (haha!). At the same time, I hated the sentiment where sacrificing your overall health until your nose bleeds is necessary to reach your goals. It's like telling me this is the only right path to be successful because it worked out for you. We also shouldn't be afraid to see authors' raw progress and know they can't always have it all figured out. I mean, how do you suppose you can work or enjoy being an Oscar nominee if you're sick? I just thought that the Wattys could at least be open to any length or form of books (including graphic novels) so many folks can join. This isn't a diss at Wattpad or anything, it's simply my personal and genuine take.
