Heizou | A Case Of Distraction

Your eighth, official morning as the assistant of the Tenryou Commission's top detective starts soon. Will you be tasked to chase after a criminal in broad daylight again? Or will you look for hidden clues buried deep within nature—among the trees and between the compact rocks?

You don't have time to settle on an answer as the door bursts open with so much energy that the pile of papers you took the time to sort out flies everywhere, decorating the wooden floor.

The plum red-haired male looks around the place, eyes sweeping across the intense glaring of Kujou Sara, before finally landing on you. He grins, jumping over the couch to immediately grab your hand and pull you up to your feet.

"Sir?!" you exclaim in surprise.

He looks at you from over his shoulder and winks, dragging you out the door and into the vibrant streets. You feel like a kite in the wind right now, soaring and weaving around confused passersby, unable to get your words across due to how quickly he is running to his destination.

Finally, he stops.

The warmth from your hand fades away. You fall over on your knees, trying to catch your breath, heavily breathing and wiping away droplets of sweat. He regards you with a chuckle and leaves inside a nearby building.

You flicker your gaze up to the familiar large decoration piece of a lobster in a bowl. This must be Uyuu Restaurant, a comforting and serene restaurant that you go to often whenever you're in desperate need of a good break from your studies.

But why are you here?

Heizou's head can be seen at the corner of the entrance; it appears he's talking to the restaurant's owner. You watch as he nods after some time and turns away, running over to you.

Crouching down, he offers a cup of liquid. "Drink up. I got you some cold water."

You thank him and quickly gulp down the drink. Without realizing it, some water drips down your chin.

Just as your mouth parts away from the rim of the cup, the male leans forward and rubs his thumb across your lips before moving to wipe at your chin. He falls back on his bottom, his arm draped over his propped up leg, and he smiles at you.

Sheepishly, you say, "Oh, uh... thank you, sir... you really didn't have to do all of that..."

"Don't be so formal now; I don't need another Madam Kujou Sara, hehe. Call me Heizou instead."

"Right, um... Heizou."

He beams. "Good, good. You know, I was worried about your well-being earlier. You would've missed a big case today."

When Sara first talked to you about Heizou, she mentioned some negative qualities and especially emphasized on how much he excels in disappearing whenever he wants to. Perhaps there was a moment where she actually praised his skills, but needless to say, she mostly sounded very irritated by the detective.

His messy entrance from the morning clearly didn't help improve her view of him.

Sitting here on the ground with the (according to the Tengu) "irresponsible and disruptive detective" is quite an experience. His boldness isn't too surprising, but he's a rather touchy person.

Now, whether or not you mind his touches...

Heizou suddenly stands up and reaches down to you. "If you need more breaks throughout today's case, just let me know. I'm more than happy to find us a safe place to rest at."

"What's the case about?" you ask, taking his hand.

He hums in thought. Instead of letting go, he pulls you toward him, just close enough to be able to whisper into your burning ear.

"I received a case about a mysterious woman lurking around this area. We are to investigate her and report any concerns."

"G-Got it!" you reply.

You're feeling fuzzy and can't fully focus on his explanation due to his warm words tickling your ear. His grip on your hand and the close proximity aren't helping your soaring heart calm down either.

You attempt to slowly nudge your fingers out of the male's hand, but he holds on even tighter and gives a little squeeze.

"And..." he murmurs, "...try not to get distracted like you are now, alright?"
