Restless yawns. Weary gazes. The monotonous voice of the professor continues to drone on and on about the significance of certain plants and its usages. Just as the pencil in between your fingers slowly begin to slip out, the clearing of his throat and a "class is dismissed!" jolts you awake.
Finally...!
Quickly, you sling your backpack over your shoulder and rush out the classroom. Years of college so far has taught you how important it is to be one of the first few (if not the first) to get out the classroom. Otherwise, waves of colorful bodies will flood into the hallways, making it rather difficult to navigate around the crowd.
Plus, as someone who prefers their own space of serenity, you aren't interested in lingering around the vibrant area filled with chattering students.
Your step out the classroom door doesn't get very far at all when you recognize the familiar light blue color in the corner of your eye. Stopping, you turn your head and blink a few times, surprise present on your face.
"Eula?"
Her natural beauty and serious demeanor easily makes her the center of attention to the nearby students. Their whispers and stares—as always—doesn't bother the tall female whatsoever as she crosses her arms and begins walking at a steady pace toward the front doors.
You catch up to her. Aside from her sudden arrival, waiting for you outside the classroom, her complete silence is... a bit concerning. Despite being friends with her since freshman year, there are some things you still aren't certain about, like her thoughts in situations such as this.
Is she upset? Does she have something to say? Has something been consuming her mind for so long to the point where she can't keep it to herself anymore and needs to spill her thoughts?
Because you're so busy thinking about the possibilities of your friend being here without prior notice, you fail to realize where she has taken you to.
Eula sets her backpack down on one of the four empty seats. Shifting her attention to you, she simply says, "We're here. Let's get something to eat before your next class begins."
"Huh?" you blurt out in surprise, widened eyes sweeping the fairly quiet place. At this time, there are only a couple of students present who are talking in low voices and eating their lunches.
"I checked the lunch menu this morning, and your favorite happens to be served for today. Come on. Otherwise, I'll drag you." She gestures to the lunch room with her hand and without waiting for your response, heads into the area to get a tray and the necessary utensils and dishes.
Not exactly what you meant by "huh?", but she isn't wrong; you're definitely hungry and had plans to go microwave a quick, frozen meal back in your dorm after herbology class. Since you were running late this morning, hence missing the usual breakfast, you didn't bother to check today's menu. By the time class ended, you were too lethargic to want to eat at the lunchroom.
Also, your friend never eats at this time as she's busy with dance practice and prefers to eat later in the day, so instead, you two meet up to share dinner and take the evening to relax and converse about various topics.
Surely she didn't miss today's important dance practice to eat with you...? You recall sending her a quick text earlier about missing breakfast, but you didn't think she would show up to eat with you for the day.
As you're standing beside Eula, putting some food on your plate and getting lost in thought, she's risking glances at you, her serious face unwavering. Although her expression shows nonchalance, her mind is the complete opposite and if anything, she's in a slight mode of worry; many "whys" are clouding her mind.
Why are you so quiet? Why does your face look so focused? Why does it seem like you're avoiding her gaze? Why—
"Why did you miss dance practice? You didn't have to do that for me, y'know... I mean, I appreciate it! But..." you pause for a moment, eyes lowering slightly, and then you look up to meet her lovely gaze, "...I know how much dancing means to you. That dance recruiter was here, right?"
Eula presses her lips together, adjusting her hair briefly as her gaze is averted to the side. There's no point in trying to hide things away from you anymore, it seems.
"Mhm. But... don't worry about it. There are more opportunities in the future. Besides," she pauses, glancing at you and quickly looking away shortly after, "I... guess you're more important."
Before you can have the time to soak her words in, she has already turned and left to the lunch table. You watch as she sits down and begins eating, seemingly unbothered by what just happened.
In reality though, her heart is soaring—too much for her liking—as she's desperately trying not to look your way and meet your intense gaze.
