Rushing up the seemingly never ending stairs two at a time, you let out a breath of sheer relief upon reaching Bubu Pharmacy. You readjust Qiqi who is dozing peacefully on your back and stumble into the place you consider to be your second home.
Someone you haven't seen in some time emerges from the back almost immediately, his familiar golden, snake-like eyes widening slightly at your state. He makes his way over to you and takes Qiqi off your back carefully as to not wake her up.
You collapse onto the floor, leaning your head against the wall, as you continue to catch your breath—your chest rising and falling in a fast manner.
The green-haired male leaves to put Qiqi in a more comfortable place. He returns with a damp towel and a tray filled with sundry first aid items and medicines of the sort.
He sits on his knees and while patting at your forehead with the towel, he gently asks in that soothing and calm voice of his, "Might I ask what brings you here so late in the evening?"
You smile sheepishly. "I know it's late, but I was taking a little walk when I saw Qiqi nearby. She told me she was out picking some herbs for you, so I figured to help her out, but... she fell asleep at some point. I carried her home, and well..."
You move your sprawled out legs a bit. There are cuts and gashes decorating the skin; there definitely would've been some wet leaves and other bits of plants attached too, but you brushed them off already.
Baizhu sighs deeply, staring down at your injured legs for a moment longer before looking back up at you with a shake of the head and a forced smile. "Ah, I understand the situation now. Thank you for taking care of my little Qiqi."
He moves to wipe at your neck and arms and continues his thoughts. "You should be more careful when roaming around outside. It hasn't been too long ago when you came in looking for my assistance with your injuries," he scolds gently.
You agree that you should be more careful, but as someone who has always been clumsy all their life, that's... easier said than done. You have dropped numerous items, way too many to remember at this point, causing you to get fired from your first few jobs that (all) didn't last very long in the first place.
At least with your recent job, the shop owner was sympathetic enough to keep you around for a few weeks longer even though she could've easily dropped you on the first day. Even to this day, she still greets you kindly every morning whenever you walk by, not taking to heart all the items you broke in the past.
And it is with your clumsiness and inevitable injuries that you encountered Bubu Pharmacy and Baizhu.
Whenever you got hurt, you always managed the injuries on your own with the kit of bandages and ointments you always had with you. But since meeting the male, he insists on taking care of everything—from the wound cleaning to the bandaging.
Initially, you were hesitant. But the more he took care of you, his lingering touches gentle and warm against your skin, the more your heart fluttered.
"Almost done. You're being good so far," he encourages, his gaze flickering up at you as he gives you a small smile before looking down again to focus on the task at hand.
You wince at the burning sensation. Just as quickly as it appeared, it gradually fades away. Baizhu then wraps your leg with a white gauze, making sure to secure it well enough so that it doesn't fall out so quickly in the next few days to weeks.
"There. How does it feel?" he asks, gesturing to your wrapped leg.
You help yourself up by holding onto the wall, taking a few steps to see if the gauze is on perfectly and not too tight. He is standing close by, his hands out a bit in order to catch you if needed.
"It's perfect, thanks for helping me again!" you say gratefully.
"It's no trouble at all, (Y/N). Please do be care—"
Of course, luck is always on your side, so your foot catches onto the leg of the small chair that Baizhu had pulled over earlier to put the tray on. You stumble forward.
Immediately, he steps closer and steadies you by the waist to prevent you from falling. His sudden movements surprises you, and so you step back, your back hitting the wall, as his feet moves to you like a magnet.
"Are you alright?" he murmurs into your ear.
Realization dawns on your face. His body is pressed against you, his one hand still placed firmly on your waist while his other arm is on the wall above your head. His face is close to your ear, so close that you can feel his warm breath fanning your skin.
In the dim room, save for the warm glow from the lamp on the front counter, Baizhu's eyes appear to glow brightly. The way they are slightly narrowed reminds you of a snake finding its prey, its attention solely on the meal up ahead.
Then, he gives you a closed-eyed smile.
"Well, what a surprising twist for the evening. I suppose you can aid me with something in return... if you are willing."

That small chair was deliberately placed there. Baizhu knew your clumsy self would trip over it.
