TW: rape, sex work/prostitution (idk if this is a warning? but it kind of just mentions it, mostly)

March 13, 2000

John is sitting at the bar and a beer is in hand. His three children sit in a booth as they wait for their food. While John thumbs through his small amount of cash, he puts what he has left down.

"There." He slides it to the bartender.

"That's only enough to pay for one." The bartender says.

"So then just pay for one." John says.

"Which one?" The guy asks.

"The one that the lanky guy ordered." John says.

"So, no chicken tenders or double bacon cheeseburger?"

"Exactly."

"Okay, then." The bartender takes the money and walks away.

The waiter walks over, putting Sam's hamburger down.

"Sorry, you two. Old man only had enough money for one." He says, leaving them. Dean and Natalie share a look, unfortunately, neither of them shocked.

"We can split it." Sam says.

"No. No, it's yours, Sammy. You eat it." Dean dismisses.

"Yeah." Natalie agrees.

"No, seriously. I-- I don't even like meat that much anyway." Sam says.

"Sam, just eat the fucking burger." Dean says. "I'm fine, really."

Sam grabs a knife and cuts the burger in half. He holds one part out to Natalie.

"Sammy--"

"If you're not eating, I'm not eating." Sam states.

Natalie sighs, reluctantly taking the one half of the burger. Sam holds the second half out to Dean.

"Sam--"

"Same philosophy goes for you. You don't eat, I don't." Sam says.

"Well, what are you gonna eat?" Dean asks.

"The fries." Sam nods to the salty side dish on the plate.

"You hate how much salt they put on that shit." Dean says.

"So I'll knock some of it off." Sam shrugs.

"You eat the burger, I'll eat the fries." Dean says.

"Whatever gets food in your stomach." Sam gives him the plate and takes a bite into his burger.

Dean grabs two small plates and somewhat evenly divides the fries up, though there are definitely more fries on the smaller plates than there is on the big plate.

Dean gives Natalie one little plate and Sam one little plate.

"Dean--" Sam protests.

"What? I wouldn't eat that much anyway. It's fine." Dean says, popping a fry into his mouth.

"So... hear you're havin' money troubles." A guy, who is definitely at least tipsy if not completely wasted, sits next to John.

"What's it to you?" John asks.

"I could get you some money." The guy says.

"How?" John asks. "Some pool?"
