Jacob's POV
"Is there something, you're not telling me?"
I shook my head.
"I-I'll be in our room."
I washed my hands then walked upstairs. River ran up to me.
"Daddy? Are you okay?"
I put my hand on her head. I smiled.
"Yes. I am. I'm just tired. Did you get ready for bed yet?"
She nodded.
"Can you tuck me in?"
"Yes."
We walked into her room and she got on her bed. I pulled the blankets up underneath her arms.
"You okay? Comfortable?"
"Mhm."
I walked over to her stuffed animals. I grabbed one then gave it to her.
"Get me or mommy if, you need us. Goodnight. I love you."
"Goodnight! I love you too!"
I kissed her forehead then turned off her light. I shut her door then walked to my room. I started getting ready for bed. I went to brush my teeth and saw Veronica sitting on the counter.
"There you are!"
"Uhh. What're you doing just sitting there?"
"I was waiting for you."
I grabbed what I needed and started brushing my teeth.
"So I was thinking..."
I finished brushing my teeth.
"Are you gonna tell me or?"
"We could shower together."
My face started to heat up.
"I-I already showered today."
"Oh Jesus Christ just come over here."
She grabbed my face. She started kissing me. I pressed our foreheads together. I started lifting her shirt up. I put it back down.
"What's wrong?"
"River's crying."
I walked into River's room. She was curled up into a ball. I walked over to her. I laid down next to her.
"Hey Rivey."
She opened her eyes and started hugging me. I started rubbing her back. She cried more.
"Shhhh. You're okay. I'm right here."
"I'm scared!"
"Shhhh. I know. It's okay. You're safe. You're safe. Daddy's got you. It's okay."
I started rocking her while singing a lullaby. She started to cry less. I started rubbing her back.
"Shhhh. Breathe."
She started to calm down slowly.
"I love you. You're okay."
"I-I love you too d-daddy."
"You're safe. Everything's okay."
