You watched the winning shot go into the basket and Yu's team gathered around each other, locking each other into a sweaty group hug.

"Are you alright?" Miya questioned as he pressed A on his switch.

"Mhm."

He frowned but didn't ask anything more. You were always really sensitive about your two old friends. Well, they were the only people you considered your friends back then.

It's hard to bury the past, and he should know as well.

You two got up and followed the others down to congratulate Yu and his team.

"Eiji!" Yu called, opening his arms for his boyfriend to jump into. "Did you see how good I did or were you just focusing on Atsushi's feet?"

"Wha— You make it sound wrong!" His cheeks puffed up then reddened in embarrassment. "It's not like I was only looking at that."

Shindo scoffed, clapping his book shut. "Well, you won the first round. Would you like me to look into the next team?"

"We're placing our bets on The Spades moving up and facing us." Haruya said as he wrung his arm around Yu's shoulder. "They're facing against The Rockies so it shouldn't be too difficult to win."

"But Ace transferred there." Nora crossed her arms, an arched brow displaying her skepticism. "You sure he won't just carry?"

"Carry what?"

"The team, Kaya. Like, do everything while the rest of the team kind of acts as moral support."

Kaya oh-d and nodded in agreement, although she still wasn't entirely sure what she was agreeing on.

You glanced at the door leading outside and noticed someone walking around in the snow without a winter jacket. Your brows drew together and you unintentionally began to stray from the others.

Miya noticed your absence from his side and saw you walk outside. He cocked his head and placed his switch in his pocket.

He opened the door and stepped outside, looking around. "Y/N?"

And he felt something bash against the back of his head.

"Miya... Miya! Come on, man, you can't be dead from that!"

He groaned and his eyes flickered open. Everyone was gathered around him and staring; Yu took the liberty of shaking and slapping him awake.

"Are you alright?" Hina held her finger in front of his face. "Follow this with your eyes, if you are able."

Miya followed her finger and everyone let out a sigh of relief. "No concussion." Kaya breathed.

"I think the snow helped." He placed his hand on the back of his head, trying to recall what he was doing outside in the first place.

Nora placed Miya's jacket around him. "What happened?"

"I'm not sure..."

"I have an idea." Eyes turned to Shindo, who was squatted a few feet away in the snow. "But only half of your unmemorable story." Shindo stood up, lifting what he was staring at in the snow: your earring.

Miya's eyes widened. "W-Wait. She..." His head turned to scan the area. "She was right... She walked..."

Hina stood next to Shindo, gazing upon the snow covered path. "Footprints. But only one pair. Do you think that she simply lost her earring and walked away?"

Kaya knelt down next to the footprints. "No. She didn't bring winter boots. Right Nora?"

Miya suddenly began running, following the footprints' path.

"Wait, Miya—!" Yu shouted after him, but Miya didn't stop.

Eiji, on the other hand, followed suit.

"Ei— I don't even know why I try anymore." Yu ran after the two, and then the rest followed.

They found Miya standing in the parking lot, staring at an empty spot, snowless from a car being there while the ground was covered with a cold blanket.

Shindo looked at the car next to the empty spot, seeing a camera hanging on the rear view mirror. "Come. Let's find the person that owns this car and see if the camera caught what car was parked here."

"It's should've." Hina pointed at the area beneath the car. "It had been dilatory in arriving, as it started snowing moments prior to the game."

Eiji blinked. "'Dilatory'?"

"It arrived after the car that was in this empty spot." Kaya translated.

"This is Tokio's parents' car." Yu said. "He should still be inside."

They rushed inside, save for Kaya, who stood at the curb of the parking lot. She basked in the cold, her eyes appearing shut, not even covered by a winter jacket.

She breathed out and a cloud of breath formed outside of her lips. "Don't go dying on me now." Her voice remained quiet but never soundless, speaking into the winter air. "That wouldn't be the greatest birthday present, my dear Sapphire."
