steves sister | a stranger things story

Chapter 23

Marley, Steve and Nancy all worked in silence, stapling old pieces of tarp to walls so Will wouldn't be able to see where he was. Marley noticed Nancy kept glancing at Steve, finally she spoke.

"Hey, what you did, um, helping the kids... that was, really cool." Steve turned to her

"Yeah." He began "I mean Marley is my sister I was obviously going to help her, but those little shits are trouble, you know."

"Believe me, I know." They fell silent again as the continued stapling stuff to the wall. Marley took This as he cue to leave, she knew Steve wanted to talk with Nancy alone.

Marley made her way to the side of the house where Lucas and Dustin were going through the rubbish.

"Hey." Dustin said looking up at Lucas "I'm... I'm sorry about dart and all. I guess I just thought he was my friend. I was wrong. I broke the wall of law. So if you want your girlfriend to take over my spot in the party, I understand."

"She's not my girlfriend." Lucas sighed, Marley rolled her eyes a got up and walked away.
Marlow made her way around the house everywhere she went she felt she was in the way, finally she sat down with max and Mike.

"I get why El was you mage now." Max said as she and Marley taped cardboard to a chair.

"What?" Mike asked turning his head.

"Lucas. He told me all about her." Max explained.

"Yeah well he shouldn't have." Mike said aggressively. "And just because you know the trust doesn't mean you're in our party. You do know that right?"

"Yeah, i know." Max replied. "I mean why would you want a stupid zoomer in your party anyway? I'm just saying, El. She sounds like she was really awesome." Max said taping the chair legs together.

"Yeah she was.. Until that thing took her. Just like it took Bob." Mike said walking off.

Everyone spent the last few minutes covering up the extra spaces in the shed with pieces of tin foil. Max and Marlow taped the chair they had made to a beam. Finally everything was done and Jonathan bought Will in to the shed. Everyone left apart from mike, Joyce, Jonathan and Hopper. Back in the house Dustin was pacing through the living room, Nancy leant up against a wall, Steve was swinging his bat around, Max and Lucas were sitting in the hallway talking and Marlow sat in silence on the couch.

Suddenly the lights started flickering, they all ran to the window peering out. Suddenly the back door opens as Mike, Joyce, hopper and Jonathan walk in. Hopper grabbed a sheet of paper and went to the table

"What happened?" Asked Dustin

"I think he's talking, just not with words." Hopper explained they all gathers around him watching as he wrote down dots and lines.

"What's that?" Asked Steve

"Morse code!"'the boys all exclaimed

"H-E-R-E." Hopper spelt out

Here." Max and Marley said together

"Wills still here, he's talking to us

Jonathan  ran to his room to grab something while Hopper set everyone staying inside up. He gave them a translation page for morse code and set up a walkie where Hopper would give the code through. They all gather around the table as hopper gave them the code.

"C." Max said

"L." Marley said there were another few beeps through the walkie

"O." Steve said as they listens for more beeps
